In life we’re often focused on having more or being better. We get so consumed by having the ‘perfect life’ that we forget to be content and enjoy the small moments. Social media isn’t the complete truth, and we always need to remember that.
Here we are enjoying a slow Saturday morning surrounded by piles of washing, cleaning that needs to be done, a house that always needs work and a dog who isn’t perfectly trained.
I’m learning to stop putting so much pressure on myself, slowing down and appreciating the small moments. As often, these are filled with so much happiness.
We commonly see this behaviour… but what does it mean? 🤔
A common misconception is that it’s their way of ‘covering up’ mess after doing their business. However, it is in fact to do with scenting and a highly sophisticated communication network.
Often this is seen after going to the toilet - Kicking after going to the toilet allows the scent of this to spread. When other dogs pass in the area, they are able to learn a lot from this such as another dog’s gender, health and whether they are neutered or not. We can think of it as a ‘pee-mail’ as such 😂 how cool is that?!
But dogs may also do this kicking motion when not going to the loo. This is still do with communication! When a dog kicks their paws it stimulates glands which secrete pheromones from their pads. Similarly these pheromones communicate information about each dog and their breeding status. However, these pheromones are actually much stronger and longer lasting than urine and faeces. When dogs are around other dogs it is normal for this behaviour to go into overdrive, so there may be a lot of kicking going on!
Do you see your dog do this often? 🐾
Where do you want you and your dog to be in 1 month? 🐶
How about…
having a relaxing bite to eat in your favourite dog friendly cafe, with your pooch calmly snoozing by your side?
Or enjoying a dog walk without feeling stressed and being pulled around?
How would that feel... pretty great, right? 😀
I love helping clients reach those goals and build a happier, less stressful life for them and their pooch 💖
Curious about how I can help you achieve the same? Comment YES below and I’ll pop you a message.
Be wary of those who offer to train for free or discounted prices. They may mean well but… they may be offering you advice that’s not beneficial to your dog in the long run 😣
What you may not be aware of is, how much goes into becoming a behaviourist…

🐾 The time taken liaising with other professionals and veterinarians on cases.
