Today is Ginger cat appreciation day!
Did you know? The majority of redheaded cats are males, with only about one in five being female. This fascinating gender disparity is due to genetics. The gene responsible for that stunning ginger fur is dominant and needs to pair with a recessive gene to appear in females.
Celebrate our fiery feline friends today! 🐈🧡
Today is National Beach Day! Here are some of our staff's pets enjoying their time at the beach.
We love seeing our furry friends enjoying the
sun, sand, and sea!
Share your best beach pics of your pups and let
us know how they're making the most of the
summer
Cat whiskers are long stiff hairs growing around the mouth, face, eyes, jawline and the back of the front legs. Also known as vibrissae, whiskers are a cat's own sonar system! The tips have sensitive sensors called proprioceptors, which assist the cat in judging distance, width and direction. Never cut or trim whiskers, your cat would be quite lost, scared and confused without them! These 'sonar' whiskers are an astounding part of your cat's anatomy!
Yay! It's a Bank Holiday Weekend and if you are planning a beach trip with your dog please check out our safety beach tips below.
🏖Sand stuck to your dog's play ball can be accidentally swallowed. It can stick to intestines & is difficult to remove.
🏖Ouch! Itchy sand between the toes! Ensure you rinse your pet's paws!
🏖Consider a life vest for those water loving dogs. Remember the sea is powerful with tides, waves & undercurrents!
🏖Do not let your dog drink the salty seawater... it can make them sick.
🏖 Picnic leftovers, dead fish, fisherman's bait & hooks plus other 'dog delights'. Watch what your dog is eating!
Oh my gosh! Our hearts just melted when the gorgeous Willow came in for her first vaccinations. 😍😍
Are your pets enjoying a summer holiday or an outing? Perhaps they are running on the beach, snoozing or having a lovely walk. Post your pictures below....we'd love to see them!
Do not leave your pets in the car in the heat! 🥵🥵🔥☀️🔥☀️😢
💚🌎Introducing Our New Green Team🌏💚
Say Hi to Hermien, Holly, Gemma, Becky and Rebecca who are implementing changes within the practice to reduce our environmental impact. The team will be meeting regularly to discuss new ideas, but we would also like your help too! As a starting point, and if possible, we are encouraging our clients to return any unused medication to us for safe disposal. If you have multiple pets needing appointments, consider booking all in for the same day to reduce travel, and when collecting larger food and medication orders for your pet, please bring reusable bags. We'll also be asking clients to accept email receipts instead of paper. Watch this space for further updates from our Green Team!
Today is the purr-fect day to celebrate our feline friends as it is
🐈🐈International Cat Day🐈🐈

To all you cat lovers out there we would love to see what your cat is doing on this very special day.....post your pictures and any stories below. Happy International Cat Day!
Watch out for these little seeds that can cause BIG problems as they may get lodged or embedded in your pets' paws, ears, eyes and even up noses! After walks and time spent in the garden please check your pets thoroughly and if you notice any excess licking of paws, limping, red, sore or swollen areas, head shaking, rubbing of eyes or excessive sneezing, please call us for advice.
Pippa recently had two fractured teeth surgically removed at our Dunmow Clinic. After her procedure, Pippa was spotted enjoying some well-deserved cuddles with one of our nurses.

🪥Watch Our Video and Get Brushing!🪥
Keeping your pet's teeth clean may seem a little daunting, but watch our vet Rebecca with her own dog for some useful toothbrush training tips to help make cleaning your pet's teeth a little easier. Rebecca's dog used to hate having her teeth cleaned but just look at her now! It can take a while and lots of practice with each step for your pet to become accustomed to brushing, so please be patient; don't rush, build confidence and give lots of praise. Treat toothbrush time as a happy event for your dog.
✨Always use a dog toothpaste and toothbrush which are available at our clinics.✨
👍Cleaning teeth is important to help avoid painful dental disease from developing.
👍While familiarising your dog to brushing aim to make it a slow and positive experience.
👍Only brush if safe to do so.
If concerned your dog has severe dental disease or is painful, we can advise on other options if brushing is impossible.
Quite high temperatures around at the moment so please ensure your pets have access to plenty of fresh drinking water - limit their time in the sun and heat - exercise your dogs in the cooler early morning or late evening air.
Hello.....my name is Ernie and I am one very excited and rather cute puppy! I've had my final puppy vaccinations and I'm now raring to get out in the fields to run about with my big brother! Whoop whoop....clear the way....it's playtime!
We understand that it can be a stressful time for your pets when they come in for treatment as inpatients. We not only give lots of reassurance and cuddles to your furry friends, but also provide each patient with their own special blanket, which has been sprayed with a calming spray to help minimise any stress or anxiety. Your pet will keep this blanket throughout the day to help he or she experience feelings of calmness, security and comfort while away from home.
Little P came to see us with a very painful eye, which needed to be removed. She was a tricky anaesthetic candidate as P is a brachycephalic breed with a very small airway, 14 years old and becomes very stressed when held for blood tests or cannula placement. After much thought we came up with the safest anaesthetic protocol for her operation. P was such a good girl and quickly bounced back from her surgery. Her owners report that she is a very happy girl again without her painful eye, so a big well done P for being such a brave girl!
⭐️We are looking for a lovely new vet to join our team⭐️
Say hello to Ziggy who has been very poorly just recently! Ziggy began to vomit profusely and became very subdued. His owner knew something was up and brought him straight to our Dunmow Clinic. Blood tests were run and an abdominal x-ray showed a foreign object in his abdomen. Exploratory surgery revealed a piece of rubber obstructing his small intestine. On removal and with some intensive post operative nursing we are very happy to report that Ziggy is back to his old self again! Well done Ziggy for being such a brave boy through your ordeal!
Please note that our Takeley clinic will be closed on Sunday 30th June due to staff shortages. We will be open as normal Monday morning. Apologies for inconvenience caused. Vets now our emergency care provider will be open as usual and can be contacted on 01376 530759.

Rabbit Awareness Week! Housing and Environmental Enrichments Inquisitive, active and intelligent.... rabbits need to express their natural behaviour! Provide...... an earth pit....rabbits love to dig! Tree stumps, twigs & toys for playtime. Scatter food pellets in the hay & fill boxes or cardboard tubes to encourage foraging for food. Housing needs to be raised secure and an adequate size for the number of rabbits and have platforms plus hiding places like cardboard tubes etc. Provide separate areas for eating, sleeping and toileting. Visit www.rabbitwelfare.co.uk for full information on housing and outdoor run sizes.
🥕🐰Rabbit Awareness Week🐰🥕 Bugs Bunny always seemed to eat just carrots but our bobtailed friends need much more to keep them healthy and happy! Rabbit's teeth grow continuously so they need food to help grind and keep teeth at an even length. Feeding your rabbit an all in one pellet mix is best plus free access to unlimited good quality hay and grass to provide a high source of fibre, which helps the digestive system to function correctly and grind those teeth too! Fruit and vegetables can be given, but go easy as too much may cause stomach upsets. We are very happy to provide full advice on caring for and feeding your rabbits.
Tommy the tortoise came in for post-hibernation anorexia. After a nice bath, some syringe feeding and a tasty strawberry, Tommy is feeling much better now!
.....and here is little Chico just 10 days after his surgery which as you can see was a great success!
We all understand how anxious you can feel when your pet requires an anaesthetic, but here's Jerry to put your mind at ease with a three part video featuring his own dog Fern who recently came in to be spayed. Watch part one below followed by part two and three tomorrow.
It's beginning to feel more like autumn now, so here's the last instalment of our summer hedgehog patients that arrived at our clinic with E.coli. With a course of antibiotics, prokinetics, fluids, probiotics and plenty of TLC, all fully recovered from their illness and were successfully released back to the wild. 🙂🙂 Scroll down this post to see more videos and have the sound on. Enjoy!
