BORDER ABERDEEN ANGUS CLUB DONATES TO RSABI

During the summer of 2024 the Border Aberdeen Angus Club held a raffle for a pedigree Aberdeen Angus heifer, to raise funds for holding the Aberdeen Angus Summer National show at the Border Union Show. The heifer, Rulesmains Princess Z838, was generously donated by Andrew, Jill and Emma Hodge, of Rulesmains, Duns, and was won by Robin Orr, Halbeath, Dunfermline, the draw having taken place on show day – 27th July.

The raffle raised a significant amount to contribute to costs associated with running the Summer National Show, and the excess (£5354.94) was donated to RSABI to continue the good work that this charity does within the agricultural industry. Jimmy McLean, Chairman of RSABI was on hand at AgriExpo to receive the presentation cheque, along with Andrew and Emma Hodge and Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society President, Ian Watson. Emma Hodge said “As an industry we are indebted to RSABI for the work that they do to support members of our industry, as it can be a lonely job. It is a very worthwhile cause, and the club is pleased to be making this substantial donation."

Rulesmains Pedro overall champion at Stirling Bull Sale at the weekend. Thank you Cara Doggett and Andrew Tweddell for all their help.

He sold for 10,000gns to Rodmead Aberdeen Angus.

We are sad to see him go but glad he has gone to a good home. We wish you all the best with Pedro.

Rulesmains Pedro is the full brother to Rulesmains Paycheck Y680 who was Stirling October bulls sale 2023 Senior Champion.

🌟Hosted by the Hodge family, recipients of the Scotch Beef Farm of the Year award. Emma Hodge and her parents, Jill and Andrew, run a mixed arable and pedigree cattle farm with 110 pedigree Aberdeen-Angus, 30 commercial Angus, and a few pedigree Hereford cattle.

As we round up a successful Summer National Show held at the Border Union Show yesterday, the Club would like to thank the exhibitors for coming and putting on a great display of cattle, and our judge - Wanda Tilson - for adjudicating some tough classes.

We would like to thank our sponsors that supported the show, without whom it would not have been possible - AB Europe, Rickerbys, Agrii, Rumenco, ForFarmers, Solway Agriculture, Tofts Aberdeen Angus Herd, Norvite Animal Nutrition, ScotAgri, and Performance Feeds.

A special mention goes to Scotmin Nutrition who generously supported our exhibitors BBQ, held on Friday evening pre-show. Everyone was well fed and watered, ready for competition the next day!

Our well publicised Heifer Raffle was drawn on Saturday afternoon directly before the Parade. A very special thanks to the Hodge family for their more than generous donation of Rulesmains Princess Z838. Princess Z838 attended the show "in person" and was used in a clipping demonstration given by Ian Campbell (Upper Huntlywood), and organised by the NextGen committee of the Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society.

✨ The Raffle Heifer Clipping Demonstration ✨
The Raffle Heifer, kindly donated by Rulesmains Aberdeen Angus, will be getting clipped before the BBQ on Friday evening in the cattle ring. This is a great chance to learn more about how to clip your show animals. All are welcome to watch and it is another chance to purchase tickets for the raffle heifer, and separately raise funds for YDP.

It was a very wet GYS but a good one.

🥇Both Rulesmains Rosebud Z792 and Rulesmains Pedro Z819 came 1st in their classes.
🏆Rosebud bud was tapped out as Reserve Female Champion
🏆 Pedro was tapped Male Champion and then Overall Reserve.
🥇The pair then took 1st in the pairs.
🥇Rulesmains Priceless Z872 joined them in 1st place in the group of 3
🏆 To top of the week the group was tapped out in the Exhibitor Interbreed group.

The summer show season has started with a bang for us.
A very mud Northumberland show on Saturday was our first show.
🏆Male Champion with Rulesmains Pedro Z819
🏆Reserve Female Champion and Reserve Overall Angus with Rulesmains Rosebud Z792.
🏆1st in the pairs and Rulesmains Priceless Z872 stood 2nd in the heifer class to Rulesmains Rosebud.
