It's always a good idea to have our mobile phone with us when out walking our dogs. We never know when we'll need them, or when someone needs to reach us urgently. However, what I find sad, is when I'm out walking Nala and see the same people every time holding the lead and constantly talking on their mobile at the same time. What a wasted opportunity. I guess the argument could be made that at least they're walking their dog, but there is no connection between them and their dog at that time. How can you be absorbed in a conversation and watching your dog's body language at the same time? How can you see the little nuances of their attempts to communicate with you? Will you notice if they're worried or anxious?

We can often wonder how a scared dog can be scared of something so obviously harmless. It's not harmless to them.

If only people could realise the damage that is done to some dogs by allowing their “friendly dog” to rush or jump on other dogs. It’s never okay to allow this to happen.

With human intervention, many puppies are isolated from other dogs, or exposed to dogs that have poor skills of their own. Lack of dog taught guidance can easily result in a growing puppy that can’t recognise calming signals or obvious requests from his own species.

Reactive simply means reacting more often or to more things. We need to look at the environment easily as much as we should look at the dog.
