Bruno the Cavalier King Charles starting his loose lead training.
Doing very well for only being at the start of his training journey.

A small video to show the possibilities when your dog is trained to loose lead walk.
Attaching the slip lead to the pram when out a walk to get your baby to sleep is an ideal scenario.
However make sure your dog is 100% on a slip lead and not reactive to anything before doing this to make sure no one is at risk.

Great day yesterday at the ‘jog with your dog’ event.
Got to do some further training with Angus the cairn terrier with loose lead work. He was fantastic with my 5 year old daughter (little dog trainer in the making)

More pictures and videos to follow.

Lovely girl and very smart for her age.

Please watch. This video shows that if positive reinforcement training has not successfully worked for your dog that using a slip lead properly can give the dog that little correction needed to guide them to what you want from them. Also notice the amount of correction compared to the amount of praise the dog gets just for doing part of the end goal.

Balance training is not punishment, it is communicating with a dog in a language they understand.

Keep up the great work and content

Working on Penny’s Road awareness.
Making sure she only crosses the road when the individual holding the leash goes to cross.

She done a fantastic job.

Please be extremely careful out walking your dogs, especially if your dog is off lead.

Penny showing perfect focus while in a sit command.
Good girl Penny.

Wee bit of desensitisation with the front door the other night.

Advices owner to just repeat drills with the front door and eventually Penny will be desensitised to the noises involved. Obviously plenty praise will be used throughout these drills to reinforce positive behaviour.

The end of the first session with Avacado,
great progress in just a short time.

Keep up the techniques with the slip lead and you will be loose lead walking in no time 👍

** VIEWERS DISCRETION ADVISES **

Please be extremely careful taking you dogs walks on hot days!
Do not take them on very long walks just because it’s nice.

This boxer dogs owner is very lucky this passer by knew canine CPR and saved their dogs life.

Make sure your dogs have access to water and shade on hot days at all time!

Starting on loose lead walking with Avacdo the Doberman.
This is what the clients are used to on a walk with him. Not ideal due to the size and strength of him.

Stay tuned to see his progress.

Not the best video unfortunately.

Continuation of Penny’s resource guarding. This was just the start of me “claiming” her bed. After a few nips, Penny realised this wasn’t stopping me from wanting her bed and she then left. Once she gave me her bed she was rewarded as this is the behaviour we are looking for.

This will have to be repeated again and again until she understands not to bite when we want her bed.

22/05/2023

Working with Penny on her resource guarding tonight.
This is a short video of what Penny is usually like with anyone touching her bed.

Resource guarding is a big problem that needs sorted with most dogs. Especially in Penny’s case as her owner is now looking after a grandchild.

Factual Friday

Depending on the breed, a dogs nose can be between 1000 and 10000 times stronger than a humans.

Dogs can be trained to smell out anything, from cell phones to cancer.

How impressive is that?!

Factual Friday

Your dog is a reflection of you.

If you don’t know how you are feeling inside, look at your dog and they will show you how you are feeling.

This is a very true statement in most cases. 🔥 ‼️

Don’t pet dogs to soon!

Let the dog sniff you. If the dog wishes to then interact with you they will present themselves for this to happen.

Clapping a dog without them ‘giving the ok’ can be dangerous in some cases, resulting in aggressive behaviour.

Respect dog psychology!

Factual Friday

The key to loose lead walking is relaxation, trust and communication.

There should be no tension on the lead.
Your arm should be relaxed and so should your grip on the lead (still make sure you have a hold of the lead incase your dog does make a mistake)

You should trust your dog! If you don’t, the dog will feel this and most likely react by doing what you are anticipating.

If your dog does make a mistake you should be able to communicate to them through the lead that they have done so. Then guide them to the desired behaviour, then …… reward! 🍪 ⚽️ ❤️

Have a look at my 4 year old daughter mastering loose lead walking. Look at her arm and grip on the lead……no tension.

Teaching your dog thresholds is extremely important.
Just because a door is open does not mean the dog should go through it.

Coppers threshold training was fantastic and she picked it up very quickly.
Great job! Keep it up!

Factual Friday

Where to properly place a slip lead.

Slip lead should be placed at the top of the dogs neck
just behind the ears.
Pull tight (still allowing 2 fingers underneath with ease)
then the stopper pulled down to prevent from
loosening to ensure dogs head can not escape.

Stay tuned for more factual Friday fun.

Here’s the continuation of Coppers recall training.
She was still very excited about all the birds around but now she is starting to listen to the recall command.
Fantastic work!

Wee session with Copper a while back, working on loose lead walking and a touch of recall.

As you can see she was very alert to the sounds of the geese and ducks.

Come back to see her progress!
