🎃👻 Halloween is TOMORROW, and we’re all set for a night of spooks and treats!

Let’s keep the fun safe for our furry friends with these simple tips:

🍬 Keep the candy out of reach! Chocolate and anything containing xylitol are dangerous for pets. If your little monster sneaks a treat, contact us immediately! 🧛‍♂️

💀 Check those IDs! With all the doorbell activity, pets might try to make a break for it. Double-check their tags and microchip details so they can be easily brought back if they venture out!

🕯️ Make those decorations pet-proof! Keep cords, small pieces, and lit candles (like those spooky jack-o-lanterns) out of paws’ reach. Safety first, spookiness second! 👻🎃

👗 Prioritize costume comfort! If your pet’s dressing up, make sure they can move, breathe, and see comfortably—and avoid any small parts that could look like chew toys. 😉

Let’s make this Halloween a paws-itively wonderful and safe one for our beloved pets! 🐾✨

Brushing your dog’s teeth is the best way to help prevent dental disease, but many owners find this task challenging – or don’t even know where to start!

Well, I’ve made a video showing how even the cheekiest doggos – such as my Akita, Phoenix – can be trained to enjoy having their teeth brushed and have happy and healthy dental hygiene. 🦷

🪥Use lots of treats and get them used to having the sides of their face touched – this may be easier as a two man job!
🪥Introduce both the finger brush and a normal toothbrush so that they won’t be scared of these later.
🪥Practice lifting their gums and checking their teeth.
🪥Using a small amount of doggy toothpaste on the toothbrush, gradually introduce this to your pet’s teeth and work in circular motions – they should like the taste of this and lick a lot which can help positively reinforce the task, along with lots of treats of course!

Lap spays, also known as laparoscopic neutering, are an excellent surgical technique to neuter pets with minimal invasion, more comfort and quicker healing – but what does it actually involve?

I’ve put together a short video explaining and showing you the step by step of a lap spay, helping you understand what goes on behind the surgical doors! It’s really helpful – but maybe don’t watch if you’re squeamish!!

First, three small incisions are made to allow the surgeon to visualise and access inside the abdomen
Forceps are then used to scoop up the o***y and lift it against the body wall
A small hook, no bigger than a pin prick, is introduced from outside the body wall to hold the o***y in place
The cautery device is then used to cut away the soft tissue, allowing us to remove just the o***y
Using our grasping forceps and removing the hook, we can then carefully remove the o***y from the small 5mm port, keeping the incision site small to reduce pain, improve healing and reduce risk of infection
Steps two to five are then repeated on the other side to remove the other o***y and voila! Your pet is safely and quickly neutered
