Our main surgery has been situated in the market town of Retford for over 40 years where we specialise in companion, farm and equine animals. We also have a branch practice in Ollerton, Nr Newark which concentrates on Small animals

uality service of a high standard. When you join our practice we aim to help you provide you pet or farm animal enterprise a long,happy,healthy life

All consultations are by appointment only and we are lucky enough to offer 24 hour emergency care, so you can rest assured we will be here to help

😴Off to dreamland😴 Coco came in for her dental last week after she banged her head 🤕

When we give an anaesthetic, we first give a “Pre-med” to make them go sleepy (first photo). Then we give an induction drug to induce the full anaesthetic (second photo). Coco was wonderfully behaved and settled really well following each dose, as well as being settled throughout the procedure itself 🌟

Hopefully no more running headfirst into rocks for Coco anytime soon 🤞🤞🤞

Hello from Obie! 🦴🐾This handsome guy was castrated with us and we have been keeping a close eye on him at his post-op check-ups. His wound did become inflamed following the surgery, but with some extra care from us and his wonderful owner, that is all resolving 🥰 If your pet is having a surgical procedure, we will talk you through important post-op care and possible complications. Feel free to ask us plenty of questions!

Welcome everyone to the New Year! The last few days we’ve still been busy, including castrating these little piglets 🩷 Aren’t they adorable! Pigs are more sensitive to a lot of drugs compared to our conventional pets, but these littles ones recovered nicely following their anaesthetic 🐽

We hope you’ve all had a magical week! 🎄 Our last Christmas Case for the week is Bonnie and Bobby 🐰 These two came in for their 6 monthly health check and annual vaccinations. Remember, just like with our dogs and cats, our pet rabbits also need to stay up to date with their vaccinations to protect them against infectious disease 💉

Remember, all days except Wednesday next week we are open as normal, we can’t wait to see you 🎁

Another wonderfully successful day with these Superheros! 🦸‍♀️ Pets giving blood saves lives! If you think your canine companion would be able to join the team contributing blood to the pet blood bank please inquire on their website. Your canine companion must be over 25kg, happy in a veterinary setting, between one and eight years old as well as a few other requirements ❤️ Please help to donate blood and help to save someone else’s best friend 🙏

Merry Christmas from all of us at Portland! We have loved caring for your pets this year and hearing all your stories. We thought we’d share the heartwarming story of Tilly - a stray kitten found with burns who was taken in by one of our nurses and cared for over a few months. Recently, she was given the all clear and was ready to go onto her new home - just in time for Christmas!

What a cutie! This is Winnie 🦮 Winnie hurt her paw earlier this month and came in to have it checked over and bandaged. It healed so well that at the second visit, we decided she didn’t need it to be banadaged again!

🎄December Dentals🎄Even in the run up to Christmas, we are still busy with dentals and caring for your pets oral hygiene! Vet Alex and nurse Sally took good care of the lovely Dotty last week for her extractions 🦷 Sometimes our dogs and cats need extractions, but they cope amazingly well after, still wolfing down food ☺️

Make sure to ask about your pets teeth and oral care plan at your next health check appointment!
