It’s that time of year again!
Can people please make sure your dogs have got adequate up to date flea treatment. I have had dogs come in to the salon with fleas the last two days.
As per my terms and conditions I have the right to refuse to groom any dog that comes in with fleas and you will still be charged for your appointment. If I take them in there will be a £10 add on charge to cover extra disinfection of the salon.
This is what I got off a dog today that was so desperate for a groom I didn’t have the heart to turn it away.
I had the absolute pleasure of getting to groom Bramble on Thursday. She’s never been groomed before and can be quite nervous especially with loud noises and new people. I spent a good 40 minutes with her just chilling out on the floor letting her come to me and explore the shop. After about 25 minutes she came over to me for a fuss but I carried on letting her get comfortable to the point she came and snuggled up close and gave me a good old smooch. When I felt that she was happy I picked her up and popped her on the table. Spent another 5 minutes or so just stroking her and letting her get comfortable with being on the table. I then did all her trim work incase she didn’t like my dryer as we didn’t want to force her into anything, our aim is always to make sure the dog is comfortable and as long as I don’t need to force something due to severe matts or extremely long nails we don’t do it. Well she was an absolute star from start to finish. Her owners were extremely pleased with the results and are so glad they came to someone who is so patient and understanding. As most of you know for me the dog ALWAYS comes first. I have upset and lost clients in the past due to me taking them shorter than they would like because it’s the kindest thing for the dog or sending them home unfinished to come back at a later date because the dog had had enough and I wasn’t willing to cause them to become frustrated with the process. I am highly trained in dog behaviour as well as grooming so I can tell if a dog is just having a toddler tantrum or if they are generally terrified. Toddler tantrums get tough love (love not punishment). Terrified dogs get patience and understanding. I’m so lucky that the majority of my clients know that anything I do I do in the dogs best interest - grooming is something that needs to be done regularly and the more a dog enjoys it the better it is for everyone involved 💖
