Meet adorable Albert! Pictured having a cuddle with one of our nurses ๐Ÿฅฐ
Albert came to see us recently following an unfortunate incident whereby he suffered a fracture to his left elbow. He underwent surgery to stabilise the fracture which involved placement of a screw and wire. A temporary dressing was also applied.
Rest up Albert! We look forward to seeing you soon for your post-op X-Rays ๐Ÿพ

We were so pleased to see the lovely Orinoco back and doing so well at his check up recently. He is now 6 weeks post tibial fracture repair.. and what a fracture it was!
As you can see in the radiographs, Orinoco had previously had surgery in this leg, these implants were removed and both fractures were stabilised. Heโ€™s now recovering nicely and has the happy face to show it ๐Ÿฅฐ

Meet the adorable Bella!
Bella came to see us at 4 months old with a fractured elbow after jumping off the sofa. Bella had surgery to repair her fracture which is now healing well.
X-Rays revealed that Bella had a small crack in the bone of her other elbow due to incomplete bone formation. This condition that certain breeds are predisposed to can develop into complete fractures of the elbow, which is thought to be the cause of Bella's initial injury. A screw has now been placed across this elbow to minimise the risk of a fracture occurring.
Bella was a very brave pup whilst she was in the clinic! We look forward to seeing you soon Bella ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ“ข Here at Coast Veterinary Referrals we are introducing new fixed prices for our most common procedures, including TPLO surgery.
We hope this change will help provide clarity to our clients whilst maintaining our ethos of offering specialist individual care.
Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy (TPLO) surgery is for patients that have partially or fully ruptured their cranial cruciate ligament, and is considered the gold standard form of treatment.

Following surgery Dill will now be under strict rest instructions to allow her bone to heal and we will see her in 6 weeks time for her follow up X-Rays.

Meet Clive! Clive was lead astray at 5 months old, by his much bigger and older friend. He followed them whilst playing and took on a much bigger jump than he could manage, unfortunately resulting in a fractured radius and ulna โ˜น๏ธ The fracture was stabilised with a radial plate, and a bandage was applied for 48 hours. After 5 weeks of strict rest (very difficult for a young pup!) Clive came back for his follow up X-rays, which showed impressive healing of his radius and ulna bones. A few more weeks of controlled exercise and Clive will be back to having fun with his friends ๐Ÿพ

Rascal by name, very good boy by nature! ๐Ÿ’™
Rascal visited Coast for the first time 6 months ago, where he underwent Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy (TPLO) surgery to stabilise his stifle joint following cruciate ligament rupture, and patella luxation correction surgery due to displacement of his patella (kneecap).
Rascal recovered very well, however he came back for further surgery last week after suffering from the same injuries on his other leg.
Rascal was a very brave boy yet again, and we were so pleased to see him walking so comfortably the morning after surgery! See comments for video..๐Ÿคฉ

Gerald may look like an Arctic fox but he is a handsome Spitz. His knee was feeling sore due to his knee cap not wanting to move smoothly within the groove (patellar luxation). Gerald's groove and patella were found to be mis-shaped with damage to the protective cartilage, Ouch! Instead of the traditional surgery where the groove is deepened, we gave Gerald a shiny new groove for his patella to glide in.
Gerald was happy with his new knee the morning after surgery and walking really well. What a brave boy ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿพ Watch a video of Gerald using his new knee the morning after surgery next

Little Chihuahua Louis and his favorite lion came to see us for surgery to correct a ruptured cruciate ligament and luxating patellar in the same leg. Both problems were treated in one surgery and Louis preferred cuddles during his recovery, which we all enjoyed ๐Ÿ˜ Looking forward to seeing you again soon, you lovely little bear๐Ÿพ

Handsome young chap Ziggy took a tumble from the stairs and broke the humerus bone in his front leg. A large spiral fracture and crack in the bone went down nearly the whole length, meaning he needed two metal plates and a pin to support the bone whilst it heals. He was a very brave boy as it was big day in surgery for him. Life is slow and relaxed for him at the moment whilst he rests in his crate, but once he's healed he can catch up on fun with his pals. See you for your follow up xrays soon โค๏ธ

Cute puppy Lottie had a fall and fractured her tibia and fibular bones in her hind leg. Repair with metal pins and wire has stabilised the tibia bone allowing it to heal. Lottie is now resting whilst she recovers which shouldn't take too long for this youngster, and then having fun can start again ๐Ÿพ

Sam the French Bulldog and his fantastic ears came to visit us following an accident with a car. One of his injuries was a dislocated hip joint, where the ball of the femur and socket in the pelvis were no longer sitting snuggly together. This made it very hard for Sam to walk.
Sometimes the hip can be manovered back in place, but often due to the injury this is not possible or once back in the right place it doesn't stay there and dislocates again.
Sam's hip joint needed to be secured in place with a temporary metal pin for four weeks. This gave the tissues time to heal around the hip to help keep it in place.
The metal pin has now been removed and after some further rest and gentle exercise Sam will be able to use his leg as normal and be back to having fun๐Ÿพ

Oliver was playing with his pals when a speedy collision with a tree stump resulted in a rather horrid fracture to his elbow. Breaking the bone on both the outside and inside of the elbow joint is what we call a Y fracture. This was quite a jigsaw to put back together but after a long surgery Oliver now has two metal plates and a big screw holding his elbow together. He is now having rest, and important physiotherapy whilst he heals. โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ
