This mixture of warm and wet weather we’ve been having makes a playground for the creepy crawlies we don’t want to see attaching themselves to our pets! Did you know, ticks are part of the arachnid family, due to their 8 legs and no antennae.🕷️
There are lots of different anti-tick products available, some of which require a veterinary prescription, whereas others do not.🩺

When it comes to male dog neutering, there are 2 options;
🍒Chemical castration - a testosterone depressant injection, lasting approximately 8months before it wears off
🍒Surgical castration - an irreversible removal of the male reproductive organs, lasting a lifetime

No, your eyes are not fooling you, yes, that is a cat in a Police harness and lead…🚓
Topaz finds being in cat carriers extremely stressful; to the point where he open mouth breaths (which is abnormal for cats unlike dogs), salivates from nauseousness, and even soils himself. This is why Topaz’s mum brings him in to see us on a harness and lead, just like a dog🐾.
Topaz is so much more at ease during his visits, and enjoys having a walk around the practice! If we see that any dogs are about to come in, we make sure Topaz is out of sight of course, though he usually likes to explore our consult rooms or out the back in our prep room! We will always advocate to minimise stress for our patients🤎.

Whilst we’re all loving this ☀️glorious☀️ bank holiday weekend weather, we mustn’t forget the needs of our furry friends...

Whilst we’re all loving this ☀️glorious☀️ bank holiday weekend weather, we mustn’t forget the needs of our furry friends will change too🐾. Dogs are the obvious one, as they will require early morning or late evening walks to minimise the risk of heatstroke🥵. However, cats who like to venture outside can also suffer from heatstroke if they don’t seek shade and drinking water💦. Our smaller mammal friends, such as rabbits and guinea pigs, are susceptible to overheating if their enclosures are in the sun without shade or cooler positioned hideaways🐰🐹. If you have any concerns about your pets do not hesitate to call a vet, it is always better to be safe than sorry!🐾

12 years ago, when Shadow was just 2 years old, he got into a spot of bother and required a metal plate, screws, and pins, to fix his back leg. Recently, Shadow has been diagnosed Hyperthyroid, (a common condition in older cats) with one of the symptoms being significant weight loss. Unfortunately, this resulted in the end of the metal pin rubbing against his skin from the inside and causing an open wound. We performed a small surgery to remove the metal pin and close the wound, and are delighted to report Shadow is healing extremely well! Here is a photo of Shadow enjoying our cat ward’s windowsill before being collected by his mum. Well done Shadow!🖤

Happy bank holiday weekend from all of us, and this smiley girl, Millie!🥰 Millie is one of our regulars at Pet Doctors Chandlers Ford, she is always super happy to receive fuss and yummy treats from our reception and clinical team of nurses and vets.

We are now signing off for the bank holiday weekend, so our sister practice Mildmay Veterinary Hospital UK is open tomorrow (Saturday) until 4pm, if your pet needs anything please ring 01962 854 088.
After 4pm their building turns into MiNightVet Wi******er, which you can reach by calling 01962 858 414. We hope you all have a safe but fun 3 day weekend! We’ll be open as usual on Tuesday morning.🩺🐾

This lovely pair of Ragdoll littermates came to us for their neutering procedures, as contrary to popular belief, animals don’t realise they are siblings and therefore shouldn’t mate with each other!🙈 Coco & Diego’s responsible owners brought them to us before any funny business happened and were delighted to see a quick recovery, and back to their cheeky selves in no time.🤍

Benny is here as a reminder that rabbits are not just for Easter, they are an 8-10 years long commitment🐰❤️
Benny is a 3.5 years old mini lion lop, who we have been seeing for some recent eye issues. This is a common health concern with rabbits, so researching their needs is a top priority before adopting one (ideally two) into your family life. Benny’s mum loves him so much, he is proudly an indoor house-trained rabbit🐰🖤
