โจMeet Jesse and Tiny โจ
Jesse and Tiny came into our Chandlers Ford clinic on the same day and with the same issue๐ Jesse had eaten a whole Chelsea bun with lots of raisins. Tiny had also eaten raisins. As these fruits are toxic to dogs, we quickly asked their owners to bring them both down to us, to give an induced vomiting injection and empty their stomachs ๐คฎ
Jesse and Tiny recovered well and hopefully keeping away from raisins๐
โผ๏ธIt is very important to keep any toxic foods and drinks out of reach and away from your pets (especially scavengers) and be aware of any signs and symptoms for your pets. These can include lethargy, vomiting and diarrhoea, reduced appetite and increased salivation. If you see or suspect your pet eating anything dangerous such as chocolate, grapes and raisins, onions, pips and seeds and other foods, the please contact the practice asapโผ๏ธ
Both dogs were overseen by our new and lovely Vet Bettina with a helping hand from our Head Nurse Kat, and our 2 Patient Care Assistants Lauren and Ella๐ฉบ who were on hand and looking after both patients, keeping them nice and calm while receiving lots of cuddles๐ฅฐ
Bettina has recently joined our team, and has transitioned from Farm Animals, to Small Animals. ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐น
Bettina is a great addition to our team, she is based mainly at our Chandlers Ford practice but is also working at our Brook House practice in Shirley.
Happy Mother's Day to all Moms!

You may never have seen behind the consultation room in a veterinary practice.
So take a look at the work our vets and nurses do on the front line every day to look after animals in veterinary practices, hospitals, in the field and on call - so that they receive the best possible care.
Thanks to Molly Case for the poem you have written about our profession.

We appreciate all our lovely receptionists โค๏ธ
So you fancy being a Veterinary Receptionist?
Understandable, working in a vet practice is pretty cool but can you...
Answer a phone......while two other lines are ringing and several clients are waiting at the desk to be booked in, to pick up medicines and to pay for their treatment
Take a call about a sick pet......calm down a hysterical owner, ascertain the relevant details, find and speak to a vet or nurse in the clinic, remember their advice, relay that to the owner and then book them in for an emergency appointment (also while the waiting room is still full)
Cuddle a cute puppy...... when just a few minutes before you were offering tissues and sympathy to a family who had lost a beloved companion.
Make a cup of tea...... for a distraught colleague who has just dealt with a really traumatic situation, comfort them and then help and support them to face the rest of their day
And that is just for starters!
Veterinary Receptionists are the beating heart of a veterinary clinic. They are the people who you will first speak to on the phone, who will greet you at the desk, who plan our days and keep the show on the road.
They will welcome your new cute addition to the family and be the sympathetic and kind presence you need when you face that final day with your companion.
Today is Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Day! And oh my goodness, do we appreciate them!!!
Thank you VERY much for all you do for all of us!

This is Willow a 10month old lab โค๏ธ Willows story comes with a HUGE โ ๏ธWARNING โ ๏ธ Willow presented to us a few Saturdays ago after getting hold of a bottle of cooling agent. Luckily Willow's parents saw the remains of the bottle and the fluid pooled on the floor. They called us immediately and got Willow to the vets. Cooling agent and many other products such as antifreeze contain an ingredient called Etheleyne Glycol. This agent when ingested can cause liver, kidney and brain damage. Its absorbed incredibly easily so even inducing vomiting can be ineffective. Therefore, once admitted Willow was put on a high rate of fluid therapy, we then gave a medication that induces vomiting and took a blood sample. What can be especially devastating about this kind of poison is that you won't see the effects in your animal for a few days if you didn't see them ingest it in the first place. This is why we recommend to avoid using antifreeze on your car in winter as many cats can accidentally ingest it if ice melts and leaves a puddle of water. Therefore, when the pet does present its often too late. This however was not the case for Willow, we knew we had a crucial window of time to do as much as possible to reverse any side effects. The next step after we did the initial treatment was to send Willow for specialist care at Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists. Here they did the next stage of Willows treatment which consisted of giving 9 doses of pure ethanol to reverse some of the Etheleyne. As you can imagine, this treatment in itself is not harmless and can have high risks with no guarantee. However, after 5 days of treatment and repeat blood samples we are ecstatic to relay that Willow has pulled through and is doing well. There seems to be no permanent damage and all is well. Great job Willows parents and both veterinary teams. We can't deny this little girl really touched our hearts. โค๐ถ๐๐ฅณ
๐ฑThis is Mickey he came in for his castration last week. We all fell in love with him as you can imagine! ๐๐ฅฐAs you can see he loved being with us and was very relaxed and playful!
