St Francis Animal Welfare is a registered charity (1166590) which was first established in 1953 and is now based at Sunnyside Cottage, Mortimer's Lane in Fair Oak, near Southampton. We provide shelter and care for many animals, including cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds and many other small mammals. We aim to rehabilitate and rehome as many animals as we can but have many long term resident
s including several cats, two pigs, two ponies and many chickens. If you are interested in adopting a rescue animal please pop into the shelter and fill out a registration form during our opening hours. We always need hardworking volunteers to help with the animals and to help fundraise. If this is something you may be interested in please do contact us.

💕 Forever Home Friday 💕
“After adopting Roscoe from St Francis 5 years ago we have been on the lookout for another dog to keep him company. A few months ago 3 friends tagged me in a St Francis Facebook post looking for a forever home for Hugo. He looked so cute so I filled in an adoption form and arranged for me and my husband to visit and meet him. We both thought he was lovely and decided to let Roscoe meet Hugo. After several visits and meetings which didn’t always go smoothly we decided to have a 2 week trial at home with us. The first week was hard for Roscoe as he’d been the only dog for 5 years. But slowly after the first week they started playing and curling up together. Now they are best of friends. We haven’t looked back. We never know the story behind coming in to a rescue centre and it takes time to adjust for everyone. We are so thankful to have Hugo. He is super sweet with our grandchildren and loves socialising with other dogs off lead. Many people we meet on walks comment on Hugo’s lovely personality when playing with other dogs. Thank you for letting us adopt him.”

Cassie came to us to find her pawfect home after she’d finished racing. She was always so happy to see people and we can see why she wasn’t with us long ☺️
“She’s showing us more of herself everyday, we get zoomies in the morning and so much excitement when it’s time for a walk that she tries to jump her head through her harness. Her socialising is going amazingly! I’ve never known a cuddlier dog in my whole life, presses her head against your chest or puts her head right over your shoulder for a cuddle. She’s firmly secured her spot on our sofa (possibly to our detriment as there’s not much space left for us)”

Poppy came to us last year with another spaniel, both of which required quite a bit of medical attention. Despite all this she was always happy to see people and never stopped wagging her tail, as her new owners quickly found out!
“Poppy has been the perfect 1st dog for us. As an older dog, she was fully trained and has very good manners. She is always wagging her tail and has been super flexible, coming on holiday with us and joining us on days out. She still has lots of energy and loves her toys (especially balls!). She has given us a lot of joy and we feel really blessed to have found her 💓 I think she likes us too 🐾
We are really pleased to have adopted a dog from St Francis too. We were really nervous new dog owners and everyone at St Francis were supportive and kind to us, and made the process straight forward. Thank you everyone 😊”

Bounty and Wispa have settled in really nicely, every time we go into their room they come running up to us, even if their eyes are still mostly closed from napping and they love being nosey looking out into the street and people watching from the window. We are definitely happy we went with two, they are completely in sync. They eat together, play together, clean each other, they have at least 4 beds and always choose to both be in the same one, look out the window together, and if one has a drink or goes to the toilet the other one will have a turn next!
