Suitable hiding places are essential for a happy healthy reptile. Large or small all reptiles and amphibians feel safer with appropriate hiding spots without they can easily end up stressed leading to health problems.

Reptiles prefer to be and feel more secure squeezed tightly up against a surface whilst hiding this is known as positive thigmotactic behaviour, reptiles do really need lots of appropriate, tight spaces to squeeze into should they want. Using hides/caves not only provides necessary shelter for your reptile but also creates microclimates within their enclosure that are slightly cooler or warmer and more humid. Cool spots are as important as hot spots in order for your reptile to thermoregulate comfortably.

Exercise and the opportunity to climb, explore and stretch is imperative! Not only for reptiles physical health but also their mental health.

Enrichment often massively overlooked is essential for a happy healthy reptile, providing enrichment within the enclosure promotes normal natural behaviours and also alleviates stress.

Reptile 'happiness' yes, of course reptiles have emotions a whole range of them and needs that go alongside. Providing stimulation for your reptile is very important for their mental well being. Interconnected tubing and/or branches are great for both exercise and enrichment. A hide with lots of holes to peer out of and climb through is a great way of both providing stimulation and exercise too; encouraging positive behaviours. You can use wood or various other items positioned strategically (secured safely) to create multiple platforms for reptile to climb up to or down from. Most snakes will make use of a rope to climb.

Strategically placed tunnels are another simple yet effective way of providing stimulation as well. By providing enrichment as well as plenty of hides you will be giving your reptile more of what they really need.

Reptiles love exploring, without the opportunities provided to them from the beginning they will not develop the muscles or the skills to cimb as efficiently or effectively as their wild counterparts.

It's been another wonderful year with many new challanges, lots of twists and turns, interesting new developments, learning curves and life lessons.
