Ruby is with us for her first Barking Mad holiday. She’s been enjoying plenty of walks and cuddles with host Chris and also loved visits to dog friendly cafes. She is a stunning looking dog and Chris says she is constantly admired when out and about.

It was our privilege to care for Molly the Border Terrier over the last few days. Molly is 17 in two months and is a wonderful character. She is deaf and her eyesight is very poor however she shows the most tremendous spirit for a senior dog. We love you Molly!

Rufus is a gorgeous Springer Spaniel and it was great to have him back with us again for a stay. He loves exercise and playing with his ball and host Joy loves having his company.

This is Evie she’s a Cockalier, a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Cocker Spaniel. What a beautiful combination. Every day is a learning day at Barking Mad. Hosts Lorraine and Adam tell us Evie is also the name of a village on the Orkney mainland, well who knew! They also took this gorgeous pic in Port Seton and said Evie was a delight to look after.

We’re so very sad to hear that Skye one of the most wonderful dogs that we have had the privilege to look after was put to sleep on Monday. A routine scan to check on a recent leg injury identified a very serious issue that made a very difficult decision necessary.

Skye has been coming on holiday with Barking Mad since she was a pup and was just coming up for her eleventh birthday. We’ll miss seeing her and Skye’s regular host Anne is very upset having only hosted her last week. Our thoughts are with Skye’s mum and dad during this difficult time.

We had a delightful house guest for a couple nights, Luna the Cockapoo! Luna’s mum asked if she could stay with our shelties so she plenty of four legged company. She got on great with her new friends and we’re looking forward to hosting Luna again next month.

We thought we’d introduce you to the Barking Mad Edinburgh Shetland Sheepdogs. We have three this is Logan it’s his fifth birthday today! He is always on the go and is definitely a Velcro dog he never leaves your side!

Our Story

Hi everyone! We are Amy and Shannon and we are the Barking Mad Edinburgh franchisees. We met whilst working together in a veterinary practice, and have become very close friends over the years. We are both big animal lovers and between us have owned lots of different pets, but dogs have always been number one. In fact, it was our own dogs that led to us becoming such good friends. We love nothing more than taking our three out for the day – climbing the Pentland hills, swimming at Cramond beach or lazing around in a dog friendly pub! Dogs are a big part of any family, and leaving them when you go on holiday is a concern for every owner. We aim to take away that worry so that you can concentrate on being excited about your time away! Barking Mad offers an alternative to kennels by providing home-from-home boarding for your dog, who will be carefully matched to one of our dedicated host families. We will come to your home to meet you and to get all the information we need to pair you with a host who can provide the home comforts your dog is used to, with no change to their normal routine.
