*the microbiome*
What is the microbiome? This term refers to all the microorganisms living in a particular environment - which could include a body (an individual human or animal) or part of the body (eg the gut microbiome or the skin microbiome). We rely on the vast array of microbes to stay alive - protecting against harmful substances and organisms, turning food into energy, producing vitamins and much more. We know that a human or animal's microbiome has a profound effect on their physical and mental well-being.
One of the tests we sometimes recommend at Botanical Veterinary Care looks specifically at the gut microbiome of your cat, dog or horse through a non-invasive stool sample 💩. This can be especially useful for animals with slightly delicate tummies, chronic diseases (gut, skin, immune, cancer etc), those on long term medications, or with behavioural challenges. When the sample has been analysed we can formulate our tailor-made herbal medicines to improve and support the microbiome.
