We are excited to share that we will be participating in the Edinburgh Half Marathon on May 25, 2025, to support the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home.

The Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home provide a vital service in our local community. This incredible charity provides shelter, care, and love to animals in need, ensuring they find their forever homes.

Every pound raised will help provide food, medical care, and a safe environment for these deserving animals.

Donations can be made via our Just Giving page. Please see the link below.

Thank you for supporting this important cause. Your kindness can change lives 💖.

Beth and Pat were loving Richard’s corn snake Vincent tonight 🐍.

Vincent is an old man like Richard at nearly 20 years old 🤣.

Vincent, Jess and Richard visited St Mary’s primary school today to talk about snakes and ‘life on land’

Harriet is new to Leith Vets (today is her first day!) but she's not new to nursing. Harriet has been a veterinary nurse for 17 years! She was head nurse at a long established practice in East Lothian. Given Harriet's many years of experience, we know that our patients will be in very safe hands 😀.

Harriet lives locally too so she may be a familiar face for some you 😉.

Harriet particularly enjoys anaesthesia, surgery and meeting clients in nurse consultations. In her spare time she likes dog walking with her two cocker spaniels, live music and going to the cinema. Please say hi to Harriet next time you see her to make her feel welcome 😀.

Here she is with Louis who was in for a dental procedure today 💖.

⚠️ This week is National Poison Prevention week.

We thought it would be good to remind everyone of some common toxins to help keep our pets safe.

Please be mindful of poisonous substances such as chocolate, certain plants (like lilies and azaleas), medications, and cleaning products. Prevention is key to keeping your furry friends healthy and safe! 🐾

Some toxins may only cause mild signs of toxicity such as skin irritation, vomiting or diarrhoea. However, some toxins can cause irreversible organ damage, seizures or death.

If you are concerned your pet may have come in contact with a toxin please feel free to give us a call for urgent advice on 0131 516 1550.

For 24hr EMERGIENCIES call the Animal Poison Line on 01202 509000 or ICR Vets on 0131 440 4229.

You may have noticed a new friendly face at Leith Vets this week! The purple top might give it away but Jess is an additional vet!

Jess graduated from the Dick Vet, Edinburgh in 2022. She has been working in Perthshire for the past 2 years caring for horses and small animals.

Jess has 2 ragdoll cats and thinks cats are pretty amazing. Jess has a special interest in internal medicine and emergency and critical care. She's really looking forward to meeting all the lovely Leith Vets pets and clients.

Isn't Chopper the most handsome little dude. Jess was pretty devastated to have to hand him back to his dad 😂.

No I’m not surprised this is just my gorgeous face!

Norman was found in a car park… he was too friendly to be a street cat and his lovely owners adopted him and brought him to the UK.

Norman came in for his health check and vaccination today. He’s a world traveller… can you guess his breed?

Duke's puggy facial folds were causing trouble by rubbing on the surface of his eyes resulting in corneal ulcers.

Richard performed surgery to correct the condition.

Scroll to see Richard’s best pug impression 🤣.

Check out Duke's pre and post op photos. We think he looks great!

We aim to be fair and transparent with our pricing at Leith Vets and our dental scale and polish pricing has been reviewed and updated to our website.

All aspects of the dental procedure are included in our dental packages. For example we include dental x-rays, IV fluids, pain relief, antibiotics if required and suture material as standard. You can rest assured that your pet will receive the upmost care with us. We've also invested in state of the art dental equipment which we love using. It makes our job so much easier! Nichola even has a special interest in dentistry.

We offer free dental health checks with our trained nurses all year round to registered and non-registered clients. We can provide an accurate estimate for procedures with extractions during a consultation.

All procedures are done on site which means no travelling to a different branch.

We are also happy to do direct claims for dental procedures with most insurance providers who cover dental procedures. A pre-authorisation is required.

Our Pet Health Clubs all include 10% off dentistry too.
