We'd just like to say a big thank you to everyone who came to support the first Leith Vets dog show on Saturday! The turn out was beyond our expectations.
We were relieved that the sun was shining and it wasn't too hot for the dogs in their costumes. All the dogs and owners were on their best behaviour 😂 .
There were some impressive junior handlers there on the day. Musical sits was a resounding success and we'll definitely do it again next year. Congratulations to all the winners 🏆.

Bartok the Sphynx🐈came in for her neutering procedure this week.
As you can see from our photos, she was very spoilt with loads of cuddles from Kayleigh and yummy food which she wolfed down after her surgery 😺❤️.

Did you know that dogs 🐶 and cats🐈 can be best friends? They don't always fight 'like cats and dogs' in the cartoons?
Pudding and Dougal love each other so much they even shared some salmon 🐟 Lick-e-Lix today.
We try and keep cats in our dedicated cat consult room and dogs in our dedicated dog consult room. However, if you have feline and canine siblings who get on well and prefer being together we can see both at the same time in our nurse consultation room which facilitates both cats and dogs ☺️
We are super excited at Leith vets as Richard Allan starts full time with us on Tuesday 7th May.
Richard has over 10 years experience working with exotic 🦜🐢🐍 and small furry pets 🐇🐁🐹 as well as dogs and cats🐕🦺🐈 . He also has his ophthalmology👁️ certificate.

Did you know that ‘Nana’ in the original Peter Pan book was a Newfoundland? Newfies have been called ‘nanny’ dogs due to their sweet, caring and loving temperaments. They also love swimming.
😻Matilda and Alexei are brother and sister kittens who were neutered on the same day last week 😻
Did you know that siblings will still mate with each other? 😬 They don’t know that they are closely related!
Do you have kittens🐈 at home who need to be neutered? Female kittens can come in to season quite early in spring time.
Not sure whether you should have the male or female neutered first? 🤔
We recommend bringing them both in at the same time when they are around 4️⃣ months old! Or when they are over 1.8kg. ⚖️
Having their sibling in hospital may also help them to feel more relaxed. We find they also recover better and it can help to avoid behaviour issues which can arise when cats have been separated or smell different 😻😸.

Even our own veterinary nurse Nikki 👩⚕️ knows the importance of muzzle training and continues the training in all environments.
As you can see from the photo of her dog Massimo 🐕, chilling happily in his bed with his muzzle on. 💤
Today Nurse Nikki's husky Anika 🐕 and vet Nichola's lowchen Frank 🐶 both had procedures done under general anaesthetic.
Anika had x-rays 🩻 taken and Frank had a dental with extractions 🦷.
Both Nikki and Nichola were worried about their fur babies. Just like you, we know how scary it is when your pet has a general anaesthetic.
We're pleased to say they both recovered well and had very stable anaesthetics.
We treat every pet as though it was our own when they come in for procedures and we have multiple anaesthetic monitoring devices.
Please feel free to discuss any concerns or worries you might have about your pet's procedures. We also have an open door policy so if you would like to see where the procedures are done, just let us know and we'd be happy to show you around.

You might have seen in the news that the CMA (Competitions and Markets Authority) has decided to launch an investigation in to veterinary pricing and consumer choice.

Dandelion was in for her second lepto vaccination 💉 Watch the video to see Dandelion eat the Credelio Plus tablet like a treat! 💊 Credelio Plus tablets help prevent fleas, ticks, lungworm and intestinal worms and are included on our Leith Vets Pet Health Club. Lowchens (aka little lion dogs 🦁) are originally from Germany/France and there are pictures of them in paintings going back to the 1500s. The show clip involves clipping the hair around their bottoms to give a lion look and to keep their bottoms clean! They're very cheeky, clown like dogs but love nothing more than snuggling on laps or in beds.
