We are looking for an RVN!

Leith Vets is Edinburgh's friendliest small animal and exotics practice. We've been open over a year now and we're looking for an RVN to join our team!

We're located in Leith which is a young, vibrant area full of restaurants, cafes and pubs. We think we have some of the loveliest clients. The Leith community is really special and we feel chuffed to have been embraced so warmly by the locals. The practice and area is LGBTQ+ friendly and we have a diverse mix of clientele.

We're looking for an RVN, either full time or flexible working hours to join our team. Ideally we would like an RVN with at least 1 year's experience as our nurses need to be confident with consulting. We also have a high dental caseload so prior experience with dental procedures or a willingness to learn is important to us.

Leith Vets is also a bit unusual in that nearly 50% of our registered patients are feline. We're the only practice in Edinburgh to have gold ISFM practice status and we pride ourselves on our low stress cat handling techniques. We would therefore require an RVN who is also dedicated to providing low stress care to our feline patients. We have a dedicated cat consulting room, separate cat waiting area and cat ward which helps to keep cats calm.

Our nurses run hugely successful puppy classes in the Links and our large reception area in Spring and Summer. All revenue from the puppy classes goes to staff involved with the classes.

Our vet Richard takes exotics referrals and has an ophthalmology certificate so there would be the opportunity to learn about exotic patients, small herbivores and ophthalmology too.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and friendly RVN to join our team of 2 full time vets (soon to be 3), 2 full time nurses, one full time receptionist/VCA and a part time receptionist. We are blessed with an amazing group of staff who work together well and are dedicated to the success of the practice.

We have 4 consulting rooms, separate dental and imaging suites and 2 theatres. Equipment includes an IM3 dental machine, CR7 dental x-ray processor, DR x-ray machine, ultrasound, tonovet, slit lamp, in-house lab.

Our next RVN could work a maximum of 38 hours per week over 4 days and a share of Saturday mornings. Flexible working could be discussed. We offer 34 days holiday including bank holidays and enhanced sick pay. There are currently no OOH, however, we may explore offering an OOH service in the future to provide the best care to our patients. The practice is open 8.30am-6pm. ยฃ750 CPD allowance per year. Salary ยฃ25 000+ depending on experience.

If this sounds like the sort of practice you would like to work in please email your CV and a cover letter to [email protected].

We look forward to hearing from you!

๐ŸŽถ"Oh the weather outside if frightful, but Wilson looks so delightful...in his little jacket!"๐ŸŽถ

As winter โ„๏ธ is fast approaching and the paths are getting cold and slippy, you may notice that salt is being laid out. As our pets are not wearing shoes๐Ÿ‘ , we do need to be careful that the salt is not getting stuck between their toes or irritating their feet๐Ÿ•. Giving their feet a clean once you have been out on walks helps to protect their delicate little toe-beans๐Ÿซ˜ from any harm.

Wilson is also demonstrating how important it is for our pets to have the right insulation when going outside. Especially in -2ยฐC ๐Ÿฅถ

Today is international radiology day ๐Ÿฉป so we thought we would share some photos of our x-ray and ultrasound equipment.

We have an ultrasound machine which provides high quality images. For example, it allows us to perform pregnancy scans, check for gastrointestinal foreign bodies and check for bladder stones.

Our DR x-ray machine takes amazing images which go directly from the plate on the x-ray table to the laptop which means we can minimise sedation and anaesthetic times which is better for our patients ๐Ÿ˜Š.

Leith Vets is Edinburgh's friendliest small animal and exotics practice. We've been open a year now and we're looking for a 3rd vet to join our team!

We're located in Leith which is a vibrant area full of restaurants, cafes and pubs. We think we have some of the loveliest clients. The Leith community is really special and we feel chuffed to have been embraced so warmly by the locals. The practice and area is LGBTQ+ friendly and we have a diverse mix of clientele.

We're looking for the right vet, either full time or flexible working hours to join our team as the practice is growing steadily. There may be some occasional sole charge so we would need a vet with a minimum of 2 years experience who is confident with consulting, soft tissue surgery and ideally someone with an interest in dentistry or someone who is willing to learn about dentistry as we have a high dental caseload.
Leith Vets is also a bit unusual in that nearly 50% of our registered patients are feline.

We're the only practice in Edinburgh to have gold ISFM practice status and we pride ourselves on our low stress cat handling techniques. We also work feline medicine patients up to a high level. We have a dedicated cat consulting room, separate cat waiting area and cat ward which helps to reduce stress in our feline patients.

Our other full time, experienced vet Richard takes exotics referrals and has an ophthalmology certificate so there would be the opportunity to learn about exotic patients, small herbivores an ophthalmology too.

๐ŸŽ†Be prepared for firework season๐ŸŽ†

Is your pet nervous of loud noises such as fireworks and storms?๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Creating a 'safe' environment for your pet at home can make a big difference to reducing their anxiety levels

Here are some tips:

โœ”๏ธ Cover their crate to muffle the noise and light
โœ”๏ธ Encourage positive brain chemistry with pheromone diffusers, treats and playing during those 'scary' times
โœ”๏ธ Preparing pets for the firework BANG ๐Ÿ’ฅ with low volume videos in the weeks prior to the actual events
โœ”๏ธ Playing relaxing background music to help muffle the fireworks sounds

If you think your pet may need some extra help with medication to reduce noise phobia and anxiety during fireworks season please get in touch with us for an appointment and we can discuss all of the various options available ๐Ÿ˜Š

This is Ringo and Flocki looking very relaxed at the vets ๐Ÿ˜บ

Did you know that we are the only vet practice in Edinburgh to have gold ISFM practice accreditation?

This means we have a completely separate cat consult room which doesn't smell like dogs ๐Ÿถ. Cats are very sensitive to other smells so we avoid wearing perfume and use non-scented cleaning products. We generally find our feline patients are non-stressed when they come to see us. This makes out job much easier and much more enjoyable for everyone!
