Police Scotland have advised that the driver, while they did eventually decide to pull over and report that they had run over poor Cookie at the pedestrian crossing, are claiming that Cookie ran out in front of them and wasn't on lead. Cookies owner states this is absolutely not the case. His dogs are always on lead when I see them walking with him. However Police claim that with 2 conflicting stories, they cannot pursue the case any further. They claim there is not a camera at this crossing. This concerns me greatly as this is a fast road and busier than ever with all the new housing in the vicinity and a school close by. Cookies owner regularly walks this same route with his niece and nephew who are only 2 and 3 years old. Heaven forbid he had also had them on this occasion. From what I hear locally, there have been a few near misses at this crossing already. Maybe time for a camera to be installed??
So we now really need your help pls folks.
We need to appeal again for witnesses. There were 2 cyclists that were at the scene, estimated to be 50 to 60 years of age. Cookies owner was panicking and distressed and did shout at one of them, not intentionally, but thru his distress, to stay back as the bikes came close to Cookie as she was trying to crawl from the road onto the pavement. Was that you? If so, pls come forward, even if only to confirm Cookie was on lead. The traffic lights were at red while Cookie was crawling on the road onto the pavement and there was a long queue of traffic. Were you in that queue and did you catch anything on your dashcam or did you see the accident?
Police were asked to pass Cookies owners number on to the driver to try and see if this can be resolved as they cannot pass the driver details to Cookies owner due to data protection but they have indicated the driver wants to claim Cookies owner for damage to their car???!!!!
Cookie and her doggy friends walk this route daily. I see them often. They are always on lead when I've seen them. Someone must have seen something?? These dogs are known by many locals. Someone must have seen something?!
Also Cookies recovery isn't over yet. She has dental specialist follow ups due to her losing her teeth 😢 she is showing signs of being wary of vehicles by pulling back on her lead walks now too and she is sore and achey from the bruising. This has been extremely traumatic for her and her owner. To drive off and leave her and her owner like this is beyond belief
If you are the driver, please contact the Police again. They have taken Cookies owners contact number to pass to you to try and liaise to sort this out. This would have been so different had you shown remorse and compassion but to drive off is totally unacceptable and heartless. Pls do the right thing and speak to Cookies owner to try and resolve this matter.
Update, owner has spoken with Police who say the driver allegedly pulled in further along the road and did make a report saying this was an accident. Now I don't doubt for a second that it wasn't intentional however it still leaves the remaining safety issue of allegedly jumping a red light at a pedestrian crossing and causing injury to Cookie, also the fact they still left the scene of an accident. How can anyone drive away??? Cookies owner didn't happen to have his fone with him and had Cookies injuries been substantially worse than they thankfully were, that driver made no attempt to help and simply left the scene. That's shocking and I hope Police do check the cameras for the jumping the red light as that cd just as easily have bn a human and why shd it be treated less seriously just bcos it was a dog?? Was the driver on their fone? Were they speeding?? Had they bn drinking etc?? Were they driving without due care and attention??
So many questions... One of which is are they willing to pay the vet costs and for the distress this has caused the family?? I sincerely hope so!!
‼️APPEAL FOR INFORMATION ‼️BURDIEHOUSE ROAD, EDINBURGH
12.45pm Monday 7th October
This is sweet little lady Cookie.
She was crossing at the green man on BURDIEHOUSE ROAD Edinburgh with her owner and was on lead, as she always is, she is seen regularly walking beautifully with her owner and is always so well behaved.
A greyish silver car drove straight thru the red light and run her over. She spent all afternoon in the Vets.
She has lost 2 teeth, has cuts and grazes and is badly bruised. This could have been so much worse.
The driver drove on and has not stopped to check she was OK or that her owner was OK.
It is a criminal offence not to report hitting a dog and failing to stop at the scene of an accident!
There are several cameras in the vicinity, one at Kaimes and one at the crossing itself but owner is asking for anyone who witnessed this or who caught it on ring doorbell or cctv perhaps from the shops opposite ( they might have caught the number plate of the car when it drove past??) pls come forward ASAP.
The owner has reported it to Police Scotland who are obliged to investigate and owner is waiting to hear back from them.
This little dog did not deserve to go thru this traumatic ordeal and this cd quite as easily have bn the owner the driver hit as the dogs were with him and on lead at the time, so this is pretty serious.
Anyone with any info can report to Police on 101 or can message the page.
Get well soon sweetheart ❤️🐾
