I went to my first dog protection seminar last Sunday hosted by Protection k9 Scotland. They arranged for trainer Yogz Peri from Pro K9 to come and give a full day seminar.
It was so interesting to find out what makes a good personal protection dog and the work that goes into training these dogs. The seminar was full on and Yogz shared his years of experience with us. I really enjoyed watching each handler work their dog. I know how it feels to get up in front of a bunch of strangers and try to work your dog and follow instructions at the same time. It's not easy. All the handlers were amazing and it was great to see Yogz get the best out of them and their dogs.
I will be keeping an eye out for any more seminars planned.

The toy ended up on the kids playground twice thanks to my incredible aim.
Another toy is in the bushes at the Quarry down Longstone. Eliza was not impressed with my throwing skills. I will get it later with the grabber stick.

Most things in dog training are recycled and renamed to confuse pet dog owners especially first time pet dog owners. Please don't fall for it.
Some dogs are more natural than others but if you have a good relationship with your dog it should not take a "Masterclass" and hundreds of pounds to teach your dog to walk well on a lead.

Our commands are 'Walk On' and 'Heel'. It does not matter what words you pick. Remember the dog doesn't speak English. You have to show them what you want.
