In less than a weeks time, myself, Karen and Marlene aka ‘The Happy Steppers’ (with a possible special guest 👀 🐶) will be heading off on the Edinburgh Kiltwalk, just under 21 miles from Holyrood to Murrayfield via the coast line of Musselburgh and Portobello!

We are fundraising for Maggie's Centre Edinburgh who support people going through cancer treatments alongside their families and we want to say a massive thank you for all their hard work.

This is a personal choice of mine during my Mum’s treatment, she loved getting her steps in as much as she could even during her hospital days, so this one is for you Mum 🫶🏻

We have smashed all our fundraising targets so far and are currently heading towards our FOURTH target which we couldn’t be more grateful for the support already received! 🎯

A little bit about Caitlynn: a mad daft animal lover who has always dreamed of being surrounded by animals, fast forward to Uni to become a Vet nurse and then setting up a sideline business in pet photography and spending my time at home surrounded by my own dogs.

My dog photoshoots aim to be fun and laid back as we usually end up going on a favourite walk and capture the fun as we go!

My main job when not out on photoshoots! 📸

As part of Vet Nurse Awareness Month this month, we are sharing the stories of some of the Dick Vet RVN team.

Caitlynn works part-time as a Rotational General Nurse at our hospital, which she says gives her the perfect work-life balance.

“I have always had a love of animals, and after speaking to veterinary nurses at career events I realised that veterinary nursing would be the perfect job for me. I graduated as an RVN in 2014, with a degree from Edinburgh Napier University. I then spent eight years developing my nursing skills in a charity practice, before joining the Hospital for Small Animals in 2021 as a Rotational General Nurse.

I love the variety of my role, as it allows me to work with different referring services throughout the hospital, so I’m always learning something new. Working a four-days-on/eight-days-off rota provides me with a perfect work-life balance too, as it allows me to pursue my passion for pet photography and social media work. I also have four amazing dogs and love spending time with them!

I have found working in a large teaching hospital incredibly rewarding due to the diverse caseload and species we encounter. I love being part of a large team and working with Specialists in different clinical areas. I’ve also received further training and clinical coaching so now I help train RVN students too.”
