Isn’t Teddy the Maltese / Toy Poodle cross a cutie? She’s TINY, as you can see from the scissors I placed next to her for scale.

Just a heads up that I’ve currently only got a handful of free appointments between now and early October. If your four-legged friend is starting to look a bit shaggy and is feeling the heat it might be a good idea to send me a message . Appointments available this week, next week and first week in Sept, very limited availability.

This is a very interesting article that finally debunks the “dominance/alpha” behavioural model we were taught 20-30 years ago. There is NO ALPHA . Dogs are social animals, NOT pack animals and are certainly not the same as wolves. I changed to a force-free model of training my dogs about 10 years ago, adopting a science-led positive training ethos. I try to carry that through into how I handle clients dogs in the shop. The end result is a wonderful relationship with dogs that I trust who totally trust me …. Without ever having to use the word “NO” ( which is meaningless to the dog as it doesn’t offer a positive solution) or resort to physical correction.

Hello lovely customers.
Just a short post to let you know that I’m going away on holiday from today until I get back to work at 10.30 on the 8th of June.
It’s my first holiday in the sun for three loooooong years. I had hoped to have a “beach ready” body, but I fear it is still more “oven ready” than I’d like .

Can I ask that clients who message me here on this business page looking for appointments reply as soon as possible once I’ve offered a slot. . I need to know quickly as I can’t keep the slot open indefinitely. Some people are taking over a week to get back to me , which is unacceptable .

This is such a difficult post .

On Monday we had to say goodbye to our darling Esme. She was only 10.
I found a lump which turned out to be an abscess 10 days ago. Bloodwork showed she’d become hypothyroid, so antibiotics and thyroid meds were started. She picked up for a couple of days then worsened rapidly . By Monday her blood values were terrible, she was very anaemic and her liver enzymes were dangerously high. A scan showed masses on her liver , an enlarged heart and she was becoming very oedematous. We had no option, as she was rapidly going into heart failure.

She slipped away peacefully, licking our faces and wagging her tail with her head in our hands . She had no idea the vet had injected her .

Esme is an archaic name that means “beloved one”. She most certainly was, and always will be, the most beloved and special of dogs. It’s all happened so quickly Roger and I are having difficulty processing her loss. She is everywhere, and yet she’s gone.
We are not dealing with it particularly well .

Hi folks.
I know I haven’t posted for ages but I’ve been so busy I kept forgetting to take any photos of the lovely dogs I’ve been working with.
The festive season is almost upon us and I have a limited number of appointments available over the next 4 weeks, so if you’re thinking about booking your pooch in for a tidy-up before Christmas then don’t leave it too late. Priority will be given to existing customers.

Can anyone say “Sausages”?

I’ve had quite a few wirehaired dachshunds in recently to be stripped , both miniature and standard . I love the breed (obviously) and I’m glad to see that they are all from really good quality breeding despite their sudden popularity. When we got our first standard wire , Mouse, in 2004 they were a rarity .

An old friend Jim Quigley sent me a pic today of a drawing I did for his sister in 1986. Initially I thought my style of drawing from then is very different to now, but having looked at work I did last year I’m not so sure.
What do you all think?

Puppies, puppies, puppies and more puppies! I’ve been knee-deep in puppies this last few weeks at work. I love my job.
(I know the standard wirehaired dachshund isn’t technically a puppy, but he was equally lovely! I’m biased....)

REOPENING 18TH JANUARY

Dog Groomers are not on the list of businesses required to close that was updated on 8th January so I’m not eligible for Govt. grants to stay shut. I’ve contacted all the customers I had to cancel, so I can now open my appointment book to everyone else . The easiest way to contact me is though this app, or message me on my mobile number if you have it ... if you prefer you can call the shop number

If you already have an appointment in the diary it will not be changed unless you wish to postpone it, so please turn up as planned.

Can all customers please read my requests below:

Please wear a face covering. It’s the best way to keep us both safe.

Please do not come into the shop unless asked to do so. Most dogs will come through the door to see me quite happily, but I’ll come out and pick up those that will not.

Please put the correct money ( cash only) in the red tin I will place on the counter for you.

Please drop-off and pick-up on time. It helps me run smoothly through the day .

I’ll be cleaning door handles /countertops etc regularly throughout the day to keep us all safe. Fomite (surface) transfer of the virus is very low risk according to current research.

Having spent a very long month off work I’m really looking forward to seeing you all , especially the dogs!

Here we go again, folks!

As of midnight Scotland is in Lockdown with a firm “stay at home” message written into law. Until I find out otherwise via an update from the Scottish Government website Doggie Style will be closed. I’ll post here if and when the information changes.
All those who have appointments in the next two weeks have been contacted. I’ll hold off contacting people booked from 18th January until the situation for groomers is made more clear .
