🎄✨Massage-vent day 11✨🎄Another day another list of things that you as an owner can do to look after your dog’s muscular health.1. Walk your dog appropriatelyYou may have an ideal of what you want a walk to be with your dog but the reality is your walk will depend on your dog’s needs. Never be afraid to switch up your routine just because it’s ’what you’ve always done’. - Puppies For puppies you want to be looking at gradually increasing the length of the walks starting short around 5/10 mins a time, increasing this slowly as they get older. I’d also recommend mostly avoiding hills and sticking to flatter ground. A puppy’s body takes about two years to fully developed so best not to overuse those joints and muscles during this period to limit damage in later life.- Older dogsAs they start to get older to the around 8/9 and up age it is a good idea to look at taking a little and often approach. For example where in their younger years they may have gone out for an hour/ hour and a half at a time a couple of times a day this could be split up into half an hour three times a day. Keeping them moving and having fun without prolonged pressure. It’s about finding new routine and what works for you and them.- ConditionThe little and often approach is great for dogs with chronic conditions like an arthritis and hip dysplasia, keeping the joints moving without overworking them.2. Low impact activitiesThis could be swimming, sniffy games, snuffle mats, let your imagination take you!Low impact exercise (especially swimming) is a great way to get them moving without putting a lot of pressure on the joints. As a bonus they get to use their brains and noses as well!3. Getting in and out the carNow. I have bouncy dogs, I know the struggles. Jumping in and especially out of the car is high impact on those joints. Teaching them a calm approach to getting in/out of the car will help save some of that. If you can you could life them or investing in a ramp co
🎄✨Massage-vent day 10✨🎄 There are small things that you as an owner can do to help prevent injury in your dog and here are my top three things you as an owner can do and guess what you can start today!1. Cover slippy floors.Unfortunately dogs are biologically not made to walk on slippy floors. Slippy floor are actually one of the biggest causes of soft tissue injuries in dogs! They can cause small injuries that build up over time in the dogs soft tissue or they can cause a big major injury. The good news is those this is all easily preventable by covering any slippy floors with non slip rugs or runners. They don’t have to be expensive, IKEA and Amazon have a whole load of affordable options to choose from.2. Stop throwing a ball. Ball throwing is very high impact on a dog’s joints which can cause a lot of damage in the long term. Trust me one of my own dogs was heavily affected by this, it’s something I simply didn’t know 10 years ago as a new dog owner. Now I am not saying you have to completely get rid of the ball, but what I am saying is you could find news ways of playing with it that your dog equally enjoys that are a lot safer for them. For example you could teach them to play hide and seek with their beloved ball, a work out for their bodies, nose and brain! 3. Swap out a collar for a Y front harness.A collar can place a lot of pressure on the dog’s neck especially if they pull on the lead. This can lead to many dogs walking about with whiplash injuries which can be pretty painful.I recommend switching to a Y front harness as it helps to evenly distribute pressure across the body whilst allowing the dog to have its full range of movement when walking. These are all little changes but they can honestly make such a big difference to your dog! 🎄✨Massage-vent day 9✨🎄Slowing downI think one of the special things about massage is that during a session everyone is forced to slow down. You as an owner get to spend a little bit of time in your day with nowhere else to be and nothing else to do other than be with your dog. As a bonus your dog gets to spend that time relaxing and that relaxation is contageous as owners often feel sleepy after their dog’s massage too! As adults it is difficult to remeber to slow down because theres always something to be done. I am majourly guilty of this myself but the main place I find pockets of time to slow down and be present is when I am with my dogs. I know alot of people will be able to relate to that so I challenge you to slow down today and enjoy that time with your best friend. Even if it’s only for a few minutes, they’ll thank you fornit if bothing else!! #holisticwellness #caninemassage #dogsofinstagram #labrador #dogsofedinburgh #edinburghdogs #pawsome #pawfectmoments #mindfulness #mindandsoul #chocolatelab #yellowlab #blacklab
✨🎄massage-vent day 8🎄✨Dog coatsWhilst they look great dog coats are so useful when it come to chronic conditions. Giving those painful bits a bit of extra attention and shielding them from the cold can really make a difference to dog with conditions like arthritis, hip dysplasia, spondylosis and more! There are a wide range of coats and fleeces out there, in this video Nala and Frankie are sporting their new @glenndarcydogs waterproof fleeces. These fleeces are great as they keep the dogs cosy and dry whilst allow them to move freely and as an added bonus they come at a very reasonable price! Please give this post a like and share if you found it helpful #caninemassage #caninearthritis #caninearthritismanagement #chronicpain #dogsofinstagram #instadogs #snowdog #dogaccessories #labrador #chocolatelabrador #yellowlab
✨🎄Massage-vent calendar day 6🎄✨Dog beds.As dog owners we try endlessly to find our dogs a comfy and cosy spot for them to sleep and let’s be honest 9 times out of 10 they end up sleeping in our own beds or the cold hard floor… there doesn’t seem to be an in between. If you are like me you might have went out. Bought the dog beds. Made the space for them. Constantly have to manoeuvre round them in the house without tripping up. Yet. Scenes like this happen… and that’s ok you are trying your best, chin up and keep moving forward!Joking aside, the grey beds are from K9 Beds and I highly recommend them. The foam is good quality and they are lovely and thick without breaking the bank, everything a dog owner could ask for and a massage therapist could recommend.#dogsofedinburgh #holistichealth #caninemassage #dogownerproblems
