Happy International Chocolate Day! 🍫
While we humans can indulge in chocolatey treats, it’s important to remember that chocolate is toxic to our furry friends.
Keep an eye out for symptoms of chocolate poisoning in pets, such as vomiting, diarrhoea, rapid breathing & increased heart rate. If your pet shows any of these signs, contact your vet immediately.
If your dog ingests chocolate, keep the wrapper & estimate the amount consumed to help your vet provide the best care.
🍫 Keep the chocolate away from curious paws

✈ Planning to travel with your pet this summer? 🌴
An Animal Health Certificate (AHC) is an official document required for your pet cat, dog or ferret to travel from the UK to the EU, Switzerland, Norway and part 1 listed countries not in the EU e.g. Iceland.
To ensure your pets meet the necessary health and vaccination standards of these countries, AHCs are mandatory and specific for each country; they help protect the health of pets against rabies and tapeworm.
Always research your destination and discuss with your vet the best ways to prevent transmission of local diseases to your pet.
For more detailed information and guidelines, check out the official government website here: https://www.gov.uk/taking-your-pet-abroad/getting-an-animal-health-certificate
Make sure yourself and your furry friend are ready for your next adventure! ⛱☀️

🛑 A Hutch is Not Enough 🛑
Rabbits need more than a small hutch to thrive. Confining them to tight spaces is cruel & harmful. Here’s why:
🐰 Solitary Confinement: Rabbits need space to run, jump, stretch, dig, & forage, as well as a bonded mate for companionship.
🐰 Weather Exposure: Small hutches offer little protection from the elements, leaving rabbits vulnerable.
🐰 Room to Rear Up: Rabbits must be able to stand on their hind legs without touching the roof to avoid spinal issues.
Minimum Enclosure Size: At least 3m x 2m x 1m high - bigger is always better!

The lovely Jura was working super hard in his underwater treadmill session with our new Physio, Jenny 🤩

ADDER BITES: Here’s what to do! ⏬ 🐍 Keep your dog close to you or on a lead around areas known for Adder populations - this will stop them from bothering the snakes & the likelihood of the snakes striking. 🐍 If an Adder has bitten your pet, call your vet immediately, & if possible, carry your pet to stop the venom from spreading. 🐍 Even if you have been on a walk & haven't seen your pet get bitten but are acting out of character or notice any swellings, call your vet to be safe. As we go through these warmer months, we will likely see more Adders basking in the sun, where they are likely to be bothered by your pets!
Meet Minnie, one of our lovely Physio patients 🥰 poor Minnie had a little spell in intensive care recently, but as you can see she is now fully recovered & has regained her ferocious appetite 😍
They might not be as obvious with it as dogs, but cats have their ways of showing their love ⏬ 💗 If your cat’s tail is upright, they are content & safe & if it has a quiver at the top… this means you have a very happy cat! 💗 Purring is usually a sign that your cat is happy & content, but it can have other meanings such as feeling nervous at the vets 💗 Giving you a cheeky cheek rub or a gentle head-butt, they are marking their scent on you, & is a way they build up bonds with other animals. 💗 & finally… rolling over allowing you to rub their belly is the ultimate sign of trust & love! Let us know if you spot any of the above signs in your cat… photos are always welcome 😽 #ValentinesDay
How does our four-legged friend show their love? Let’s have a look 🐶 💗 When your dog chooses to come cuddle up to you (on their terms), they trust you, they love you & they want to be close to you! 💗 That helicopter tail wag? This type of tail behaviour is for people who they love the most. 💗 Eye contact, but with soft relaxed eyes shows that your dog has level of trust in you & wants you to know about it. #ValentinesDay
🐶 Calling all pet parents 🐱 👉 Say goodbye to surprise vet bills & hello to peace of mind! Making biscuits! 😍 Kittens knead their mother's stomach to stimulate milk flow. If your cat kneads your lap during cuddles, it may indicate their connection from the secure bond with their mother to the bond they share with you. The more they knead, the more they love you! 🥰
⚠️ Jellyfish Warning ⚠️ Jellyfish are washing up on many beaches and shorelines right now. Therefore, dog owners must be vigilant & protect their pets from these jellyfish. Even long-dead jellyfish can sting inquisitive dogs &, in some cases, this can cause significant pain & swelling. This is of particular concern if the sting occurs in or near the mouth or if your pet has a severe reaction to the sting. Common signs of jellyfish stings can be sudden onset of pain, vomiting, retching, drooling, & swelling of the face, limbs, mouth, & throat. If a jellyfish’s tentacle is attached to the skin, use a towel or stick to carefully detach these from the skin - be careful not to touch these yourself! Please seek vet attention promptly if your dog has been stung, particularly if it involves the mouth/throat.
It's National Walking Day 🚶♂️ Walking an elderly arthritic dog? Here are some top tips: 🐾 Your dog doesn’t link hours of zoomies to pain later on, & it is up to us, the owners, to help them out. 🐾 Keeping moving at constant regular intervals is essential to keeping stiffness down & getting the blood flowing. However, every dog is unique, so a tailored exercise plan is a great way to ensure your dog gets the correct amount of exercise without causing discomfort. 🐾 Check out CAM, who have helpful advice on setting up an exercise plan: bit.ly/3kD8dxB
