Meet Gia, our adorable little Southern pudu fawn 💛
Pudus are the smallest species of deer in the world and wee Gia weighed just 630g when she was born - less than a loaf of bread.
She will remain off-show for the first few weeks of her life as she settles in and becomes more confident, but visitors will be able to spot her exploring alongside parents Violetta and Evan soon!

We’re delighted to share that two critically endangered cotton-top tamarins were born on Tuesday! They’re doing well and have been named after Taylor Swift by our keepers.

We have been made aware of a page called ‘Zoo Tickets’ and subsequent website which has fraudulently been advertising ‘4 Edinburgh Zoo Tickets’ for £2. The website then goes on to ask for personal details, including payment information.
These ads are FAKE and are no way affiliated with Edinburgh Zoo. We have reported the page and its posts and encourage you to do the same.
The page has previously used this SCAM, impersonating other zoos across the UK and is yet to be taken down by Facebook. Please help us spread the word to help others.

Proof that our koalas aren't always asleep 😅
Koalas are quite fussy eaters and their diet mainly consists of eucalyptus leaves. These take a long time to digest though and are quite low in nutrients, meaning koalas are often spotted snoozing in the treetops (for up to 20 hours a day!) to conserve energy 🐨

Koalas' digestive systems have adapted to detoxify poisonous chemicals in eucalyptus so they have no problem eating LOADS of it 🌿 Keepers ensure there is a variety of fresh eucalyptus every day to keep our koalas happy and healthy 🐨
Nikki and Elvis have welcomed FOUR adorable Visayan warty piglets! At just six weeks old they are still dependant on mum and spending a lot of time inside, but lucky visitors will be able to spot them exploring their home more and more over the next few weeks 🐽💛 Visayan warty pigs are critically endangered and one of the rarest species of pig in the world. Is there anything more perfect than a pygmy hippo ear wiggle? 🦛 When hippos go underwater, their ears fold shut to keep water out. Some water can still get in though, so they give them a little wiggle when they emerge to remove it 💧💛
Grooming is an important part of a tiger's day 🧽🐯 They use their sharp, rasping tongue to remove loose hairs and dirt from their fur, which helps keep their iconic striped coat in tip-top condition! With such a thorough grooming routine, it's no surprise Dharma is so beautiful 💛
Earlier this month the young people at Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity helped us wish a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Babu 🥳 Babu, our female Malayan sun bear, turned 12 and had lots of fun playing with her special birthday box of treats... until it went pop 🎉
