Fireworks season is upon us 💥
Please try and follow the advice attached, from Dog’s Trust, and keep your dogs safe indoors. When they do go outside (if they are willing to do so, please don’t force them if they are reluctant, cleaning up a toilet accident is a small price to pay not to break your dog’s trust in you 💛 ) make sure your garden is completely secure; if not, they should be on a well-fitted collar/harness (not loose enough for them to back out of!) and leashed. They should also be wearing an identity tag with up-to-date contact details.
Where walks aren’t an option and you need to entertain pups….. Cheap and easy ideas:
- using a box and scrunched up paper (eg. When you get an amazon delivery, use the box and brown paper inside) and chuck a handful of dry food in for snuffling
- handful of dry food (or some chopped up smelly treats - Mabel is a fan of some very finely grated cheese! 🧀 ) chucked on the floor. Gives my floor a clean too! 😂
- get a towel, handful of food, roll towel up a bit, another handful, roll again....pup has to unroll the towel to access the food
- use an old yoghurt pot, or similar (I use cheap plastic pots from the B&M picnic range!) to freeze some food/treats in some water to make an ice cube for licking at (maybe pop a towel down for this one to soak up any melting liquid!)
Some toys to help with enrichment:
Kong, snuffle mat, lickimat. There’s lots of other treat dispensing toys on amazon/pets at home, but those are the three things I’ve purchased that I use the most. Snuffle mats work best for dried food/treats, Kongs and Lickimats are better for wet dog food/plain yoghurt/peanut butter/baby food (avoid anything with onions!) etc.
Licking is a calming behaviour that releases feel good endorphins, so always worth a try for reducing stress levels 😌
Just do whatever your doggy needs to feel safer 🧡 If your dog does unfortunately manage to escape, please don’t hesitate to contact me, and I will come immediately to help search! 🐶
