I’m sure we’ve all seen the weather forecast for today/tomorrow - it’s not even 10am and it’s HOT 🔥
You know the drill folks….Make sure clean fresh water is available at all times, and pups have access to cool areas of the house out of direct sunlight. Remember, no dog ever died from missing a walk….
I’ll list some of the activities Mabel will be doing below 👇🏻 hopefully give you some inspiration for fun ways to tire your pup when exercise is limited! Whatever you do over the next few days, please keeps your pups safe 💙
Cheap and easy ideas:
- using a box and scrunched up paper (eg. When you get an amazon delivery, use the box and brown paper inside) and chuck a handful of dry food in for snuffling
- handful of dry food (or some chopped up smelly treats) chucked in the grass in a shaded area
- get a towel, handful of food, roll towel up a bit, another handful, roll again....pup has to unroll the towel to access the food
- use an old yoghurt pot, or similar (I use cheap plastic pots from the B&M picnic range!) to freeze some food/treats in some water to make an ice cube for licking at (helps to get some extra fluids in too!)
Some toys to help with enrichment:
Kong, snuffle mat, lickimat. There’s lots of other treat dispensing toys on amazon/pets at home, but those are the three things I’ve purchased that I use the most. Snuffle mats work best for dried food/treats, Kongs and Lickimats are better for wet dog food/plain yoghurt/peanut butter/baby food (avoid anything with onions!) etc.
More interactive:
Teach some tricks? Basic stuff like putting their front paws up on a little stepladder, “touch” where they have to press their nose to your hand, “middle” where they come in between your legs while standing (this can come in handy as part of recall too), or you could go more elaborate and teach a roll over!
As always, please tweak any activities to suit your own pet (eg. if they eat cardboard, the snuffle box probably isn’t for them!) and supervise your dog when trying any new toys or equipment, especially for the first time.
Any questions, just ask 😊
Have fun and stay safe! 🐶
