If the answer is yes, we need your help!
Researchers at the University of Edinburgh invite you to participate in a current research project wanting your professional perspective on current behavioural issues observed in dogs based in the UK based on your own caseloads. This study has obtained ethical approval, and your involvement is entirely voluntary, confidential, and anonymous.
Your participation in the study would be most appreciated and will contribute to furthering our understanding of what behavioural issues are most affecting the dogs of the UK and help to improve their welfare.

Met an older and just lovely English bull terrier this morning who reminded me so much of the gorgeous Mabel (shown posing below!) I had to stop and have a chat!

Had my last day for a while with the gorgeously lanky Eden yesterday...

She goes in for surgery on her wee dodgy knee on Monday and we are sending her all our thoughts and cuddles! 🤗❤️

This is Hector.
Hector is super cute but finds the attention of strange people and dogs a bit too much!

We are working on some different ways for Hector to give his consent before being approached and to make being out and about a less stressful experience.

Can't wait to see him enjoying life to the fullest!

What a special girl to start my year off with! 😍😍

Shakira (Ira to her friends) is still finding the door a very exciting and sometimes scary ordeal and loves to jump at people when they come in.

We have put a few new plans in place to help with this and this fantastic picture was taken when I invited her up for a snuggle after she had been relaxing peacefully for a good 20mins!

She gives the best hugs ☺️

Just wanted to share this wonderful video showing the amazing progress in collie pup Norris' training.

If you remember, Norris was really struggling with cars and movement in general in typical collie style.

His owner has worked so hard to get to this stage and it really shows! Massive congratulations to her and it is such a joy to see Norris happily playing, sniffing and focusing on his owner with cars and people going past him!

I met the absolutely adorable Peebs today 🥰🥰

Another lucky Romanian rescue who has found a brilliant owner and forever home.

Peebs, like many overseas rescues, struggles with over arousal and has fear of strange men. She is also small and cute so everyone thinks they can touch her!

We have worked out a great plan to harness that arousal, yeah her a way to give consent to being touched, and teach Peebs to deal with certain situations on a different way that will lead to a less stressed happier pup.

Little victories are KEY when dog training!

Lyra and her mum have been working so hard on lowering her arousal levels when outside. Lyra is a collie/lab cross so when she's up she's UP!

These pictures may not seem like much to the casual viewer but for Lyra they are proof of a massive milestone to her relaxing and not stalking/chasing all the movement she sees outside.

Amazing work from these two 🥳🥳

Meet Chewbacca! (Chewie to his friends)

I do love an old victorian bulldog as I am all about promoting healthier shifts in breeds and this does just that.

Chewie does love a good pull and finds it very hard to control his excitement in true bull breed form.

Between myself and his dedicated owner, Chewie will be enjoying life at a slower pace in no time.

Look at relaxed lad Lenny!

He is super chilled with me but, as a new rescue, he can find being around men and noises scary and isn't the best at sharing food!

We have set up a great training plan to help Lenny learn some new coping techniques and boost those social skills.

This is Walter, Walter is just the best wee pup and his owners have come to me for my puppy package to make sure Walter grows up, happy, balanced and understood by his doting family.

Come and join myself and the team at Edinburgh Dog Behaviour for a fantastic blended online block of classes!

Online classes are a great way to nail those essentials.

🐾 Our next Blended Beginners Class starts on Nov 9th! 🐾

With the blended class we have the best of both worlds. A lot of dogs can struggle with the exciting distractions of being outside and near other dogs and humans, which can make it harder for a dog-handler pair to learn. This layer of difficulty is taken away by learning and practicing the new behaviours in a distraction free environment first, before transferring them to an outdoor class environment. 🐕‍🦺

Our class is suited for both young dogs, where they will be learning new skills, and also for older dogs, if you want to jump start their training!

The first pre-recorded lesson will be released on Tuesday Nov 9th and the first live lesson will be hosted on Tuesday Nov 16th at 7 pm by our online training expert Elona Smith. The class consists of the pre-recorded lesson followed by 4 weeks of live online lessons which will get you ready for the in-person class at Leith Links!

Loose lead walking is one of the hardest things our dogs have to learn as their natural gait is a lot faster than ours usually!

People always ask me what equipment can be used to 'fix it' and unfortunately, there is none!

Equipment can help limit how much the unwanted behaviour is displayed and can also greatly aid training so they are definitely useful don't get me wrong!

Have a look here at the beautiful Roman and his owner learning the correct way to utilize a good tug toy to help Roman show his excitement for a walk without pulling like a train.

No more arm wrenching starts to a walk here! Roman walking so well!

This gorgeous girl is Kora, and, true to her breed, she finds it hard to control her excitement around other dogs and people and her excitement can look aggressive tho those who don't know her.

We are working on her being able to disengage from stimuli at a distance to help her learn some impulse control but this girl is one clever sausage! So I am sure she will take to this training like a true star.

Lovely few days off to recharge the batteries. She was a star as usual, seeing her navigate the rocky terrain is a joy to watch.

Roman finds it hard to contain himself around exciting things in true Staffie style.

We are working on a great impulse control training plan to show him that his owners can be just as fun as other dogs and that he doesn't have to chase everything that moves!

I am sure this clever clogs and his brilliant owners will smash his training.

I was back working with the gorgeous collie-cross Lyra yesterday. She likes to really yell at other dogs in true collie form when eye contact is made so we worked on some new ways for her to approach other dogs that are not so arousing/stressful for her.

She did brilliantly! Check her out here with my own girl Juno enjoying a well deserved tasty long lasting chew to show her that being around other dogs can be calm as well as energetic.

This girl is just so clever and was walking in a group of other dogs without a care in the world by the end of the session no problem at all!
