All I wanted for Christmas was another cat to add to my family of 4…Wish granted! Meet Tuxedo Cat, built on a rainy New Years Day. The cat family were more impressed with the box though to be honest!

Please be aware of our animal friends when it comes to fireworks this New Years Eve.

So many animals - domestic, farmed and wild - find them frightening with often tragic consequences.

Some top tips to help your cat stay calm during fireworks season

- Keep your cat indoors after dark. It’ll reduce the risk of them being spooked!

- Play music. Cats and loud noises don’t necessarily mix. Keeping a radio or TV on can help if your cat gets scared from the sudden sounds of fireworks

- Check on them in their safe space and don’t over fuss them if they aren’t keen

It’s Halloween! Time to talk about black cats. Superstition has it that black cats are considered common companions of witches and bringers of misfortune if they happened to cross your path.

This might explain why black cats are always the last to be rehomed in rescue shelters. Personally, I prefer Welsh folklore which says black cats would bring luck to a home. That’s why my very own George, 12, is a black rescue cat.

Some of my clients agree, as you can see from the pictures black cats are gorgeous!

In preparation for Halloween and Bonfire Night, here’s a few things to consider for your pets:

1) Keep them in after dark, lock the cat flat, with colder weather they are not too bothered. You may want to pop down a litter tray to prevent any accidents.

2) Fire works can be alarming, so make sure you give them somewhere to feel safe warm and secure

3) Pop a radio on to calm them. Theres plenty on line you can find, just search for ‘stress reducing music for pets’.

Wow what a fun and busy few weeks I have had with my daily cat sits! Can you see a theme here? They are all ginger girls and boys and range from a beautiful old chap who’s nearly 20 to a 1 year old belonging to my newest client, and others in between!

I enjoy looking after cats and kittens in the comfort of their own home - they are less stressed and I get to see their character. I am now fully booked until end July, with limited space in August. If you are looking for cat sitter local to Egham please get in contact.
