⚫️🔴⚫️ GROUP MEMBERS PLEASE NOTE ⚫️🔴⚫️

Group sessions are henceforth discontinued.

We resumed the sessions due to popularity and request, however last Friday (29th October) we only had one person across two of the sessions arrive. Meaning on Friday the sessions were ran at a LOSS of £37.

We have always tried to be flexible and understanding with shift workers, and we were more than happy to add sessions onto the end of the course should notice of inability to attend be given in advance, however only one client out of 16 notified us in advance that they were unable to make it.

We will be in contact to issue refunds between now and Wednesday, however should you have concern regarding your refund please do not hesitate to contact us directly via direct message or email.

We are available for 1-2-1 training and should you wish to transfer your remaining balance to 1-2-1 training sessions we would be more than happy to do so.

⚫️🔴⚫️ PLEASE SHARE YOU COULD SAVE A LIFE ⚫️🔴⚫️

As we approach another heatwave we wanted to remind you all of the dangers of HEAT STROKE and WATER INTOXICATION in dogs, and how to prevent / notice the signs that your pet is experiencing one of these potentially fatal illnesses.

Below is a risk scale for dog walking in summer temperatures.

It’s worth being vigilant during the warmer months, keep in mind tarmac temperatures, if unsure use the back of your hand to test the temperature of the ground your dog will be walking on.

🐶 Early / later walks are always best as it’s usually cooler.

🐶 Consider changing your usual road walk and opt for a park / wooded walk instead.

🐶 Check the temperature of pavements by using the back of your hand, hold your hand on the surface for a minimum of 15 seconds.
Can’t do it? It’s too hot for your pup to walk on and could even burn their pads !

🐶 Remember to keep your pup hydrated but ensure water consumption is closely monitored due to the risk of “WATER INTOXICATION” as this can be fatal.

And most importantly…

🐶 DO NOT SATURATE A DOG WITH WATER TO COOL THEM DOWN IF EXPERIENCING HEATSTROKE SYMPTOMS. This can cause the dog to go into shock!

⚫️🔴⚫️STAY SAFE WITH WATER PLAY ⚫️🔴⚫️

There has been a lot of hype recently over the following item that can be purchased from B&M stores.

Please be aware, although your pup may love water, it can potentially be fatal to your pups (along with other forms of water sport and play, such as hosepipes, sprinkler systems etc).

Water intoxication, also known as hyponatremia is a relatively rare but potentially fatal condition that is most commonly seen in dogs that love to play in the water. Water games that involve retrieving items or diving into pools to catch toys can cause them to ingest large quantities of water very quickly. It can also happen when they “catch” pressurized water from sprinklers or hoses.

Excessive amounts of water cause the body to lose sodium. The body’s cells begin to fill with water and swell. If the cells in the brain swell, it can affect the central nervous system which can be fatal.

Symptoms include:

🐶 loss of coordination
🐶 lethargy
🐶 bloating
🐶 vomiting
🐶 glazed eyes
🐶 excessive salivation
🐶 difficulty breathing
🐶 seizures
🐶 coma

Water intoxication progresses quickly so if your pet has been playing in the water and begins to show any of the signs mentioned above, it’s crucial to seek veterinary care immediately to save your dog’s life.

Treatment of water intoxication typically includes IV delivery of electrolytes, diuretics and drugs to reduce brain swelling. With aggressive veterinary care, some dogs are able to recover, but sadly, many do not.

It’s important to closely watch dogs that are very active in water and ensure they take regular breaks in between playing. Be especially careful on days when the water is rough. If your dog empties their water bowl after playing hard or exercise, ensure they are rested before refilling the bowl.

Familiarize yourself with the symptoms of water intoxication to keep your furry family member safe!

Meet Ember the GSX!

Ember is an extremely anxious dog, she deals with this by having reactive outbursts, including being very vocal about her feelings, as well as lunging and snapping at the air.

We have had around 4 sessions with Em so far, and although she is far from being completely relaxed (panting, visually fixated on the other dog) she is probably around 75-80% better than she was prior to our sessions beginning.

Ember is five, she may never reach a point where she wants to be best friends with other dogs, and that’s completely fine. It’s all about building her tolerance and making her more comfortable in different environments around other dogs, ignorance is better than reactivity !

A lovely 1-2-1 training walk with one of our regulars today.

This lovely girl is (would you believe it) highly dog reactive.

(Halti set up is her usual walking equipment provided by her handler).

She’s making beautiful progress!
Proud of you Em.

Time 🖤

Time

Everything is so fast nowadays isn’t it?

Want a series? Binge it on Netflix and you’re sorted

Want clothes? Order before 10pm and you can have them the next day

Forgotten a present? Amazon can have it to you by tomorrow

All these things we want and need can be at our fingertips

From a human perspective, when someone is struggling mentally, the journey is rarely quick and it is nearly always painful to some degree

Dogs are like this too. Dogs can take time

Having a ‘good’ dog takes time. It takes hard work. It takes getting up day after day and either training, managing or helping them.

So let’s give them some time. If you’ve adopted a new dog, it’s NOT going to settle in 48 hours.

If your dog has pulled on the lead for months and you’ve only just decided to train it out of them 8 months later, give them more than an hour

If you have a hunting breed who’s brain LOVES to sniff and you want to start connecting off lead with them, give them more than a month to help those pathways change

If you have a terrified reactive dog give them months to decompress and learn that it’s safe again

They are animals, they have brains and those brains need time to adjust especially if they have experienced something traumatic

Stop looking for quick fixes because your dog needs to ‘be controlled’ or you think it’s ‘dominant’ or you’re finally ready to train when you couldn’t really be bothered before because they were a puppy and you thought they would ‘grow out of it’

Take it day by day and have some compassion for them, they are not an Amazon parcel you can order brand new for the next day
