We have recently sown five fields with Winter Bird Feed, and hereβs whyβ¦
Some of our land is too wet for Winter Cereal Crop cultivation due to tidal flooding.
Weβre ones to always find a solution in these situations & have taken advantage of the government SFI ( Sustainable Farming Incentive) scheme and weβve drilled a 3-year Wild Bird Mix.
By doing this we are welcoming in a variety of species, utilising the land & encouraging birds to feed on seed heads in Winter for survivalβ¦
And by planting the soil with a 3-year mixed species, soil erosion from floodwater will be reduced & prevent nutrients from being washed into the watercourses as the roots will form a mat that holds the soil together.
What feed we can expect each yearβ¦
π± Year 1: Triticale, Radish & Sunflowers
π± Year 2: Kale & Rye
π± Year 3: Chicory & Fennel
With the bird feed fields close to the rewilding land, we hope they will migrate there to nest and thrive.
We will be observing the land over the next three years to identify the grazing species and eagerly anticipate the first sightings in winterβ¦
Weβll keep you in the loop πͺΆ
In honour of Environment Day,We'd like to share the exciting process behind our soil preparation for our @wildfarmed wheat and bean mix. πΎWe're planting clover to help fix nitrogen in the soil, ensuring that by next year, it will transform into the magical, healthy produce seen in this yearβs crop. With nearly 60 percent of all species living in soil, maintaining healthy soil is crucial for our enviromentβ¦It's not just about our soil; it's about keeping our entire planet healthy and thriving. π
Our first guests checked in exactly a year ago & what a trip it has been π And in a rather timely manner please welcome to the world our new film!
1 year birthday alertβ¦. And what have we brewed up? Come back tomorrow. Midday. π³

Anselm, whoβs the fellow given the responsibility of looking after this place, has written a piece on the journal on both of our websites which he talks a bit about here. It speaks for itself. Check it out.
Itβs pretty honest and gives us all a little reminder of what drives our mission and love of this place.
Itβs worth a read & we hope you enjoy.
