A nice delivery of new fish yesterday including these little Gems 💎
Lake Kurumoi Rainbowfish !
Some times known as the Sunset Dwarf Rainbow these stunning rainbows come and known only from Lake Kurumoi, a small and isolated lake in New Guinea.
Like many Rainbowfish first light in the morning is when they show off the most and these specimens we have instore have only been here 12 hours and already doing exactly that ! The males are showing off to the females with the most dominant being the most colourful one you see !
Great to have this Rainbowfish in store as it’s one much less seen in recent years.. a beautiful fish that’s a must have in a large planted aquarium 🌱

Say Hello to the Green Barb.. 🐠This is a Barb you may not recognise at least not in this form.. what you’re looking at in this video is the original wild fish that, the Golden Barb, we all know and love came from. The a ‘Golden’ strain was first produced in the 1960’s and since then has become one of the most popular aquarium fish we have today with many unaware its completely man made. This natural Green form I think is absolutely stunning.. with flashes of green and gold as it turns in the water.. and how many Green fish are there.. there arnt many ! These barbs are nice and active when kept in group of at least feed well on most dry foods plus live on frozen. A rare yet common barb thats sure not to disappoint ! Giant Flower Beetle
Just hand feeding a Giant Flower Beetle.. 🌸🪲
All in a days work at Ely Exotics 😆
We have a pair of these beetles available and they are just amazing.. ! As you can see they are quite large and a beautiful bright green colour. Whoever snaps these up has not only a pretty and interesting species but also a shot at breeding them too 😁
Adult beetles love sweet foods and can be fed on various fruits and jelly pots like the female here couldn’t wait for !

A fairly new fish coming through over the last few months from our breeders. Cherry barbs will brighten up any community tank with a splash of red and pink. The males are the deep red fish you see with the females being the paler more pink coloured.

⚡️ A New arrival that may shock you…Quite literally 🫨⚡️
The Electric Eel ⚡️
A formidable animal in its native range living in swampy, slow moving to stagnant bodies of water. There are so many amazing facts about this fish some that make it the notorious species it but others are just fascinating ! So here’s a little breakdown of what makes this fish so special …
⚡️it produces electricity for a few reasons - navigating, hunting and defence.
⚡️Their eyesight is very poor so the electrical field helps them find their way in the darkness and locate prey
⚡️ As an Adult it can deliver a shock of up to 600/700volts. High voltage is anything of 500volts.. so this is a real punch. Enough to knock you off your feet. Death is rare but it should be treated with respect.
⚡️They are air breathers.. that’s right this fish could drown if not able to come to the surface to breath. Their gills are poorly developed and their mouths lined with vascular tissue instead so they can absorb atmospheric oxygen.
⚡️It’s vital organs are all located in the front section of the body with the rest of the body to house the 3 larger electricity producing organs - the main, hunter and sachs organs. The main and hunter are the two that together produce the big hitter that’s enough to disable large threats.
⚡️They can grow to over 2m long and weigh nearly 20kg..
A fish that for sure should be respected and for a dedicated aquarist only. Once settled they are actually pretty chilled out and will only be a problem if provoked. A fascinating creature thats completely captivated me ! 🙂⚡️🐠

Panda Barbs !
The wonderful Panda Barb is a fish that should always be a contender for a planted community tank. As adults they colour up beautifully, the males especially showing lots of pinks all through the body with a bright blue upper lip 🤩
These captive bred youngsters are just starting to show their adult colours the perfect time to get them👌🏻 they are very peaceful, males will occasionally spar amongst themselves as they show off for the females.

Daisys Ricefish !
Looking for something a little bit different for the community tank.. ? Look no further than Daisys Ricefish !
These unusual little fish are known only from one location in the wild a stream known as Mata air Fotuno on the Sulawesi island Muna in Indonesia. I always find it really interesting when a fish comes from just one stream or lake and it’s a real credit to captive breeding as if anything ever happens in that the species will still live on !
Back to the Ricefish, they grow to around 3cm the specimens we have in the shop are about fully grown and really showing off their full colour 😍 they are peaceful and fairly easy to breed if a slightly different project is what you like. Above all they are for a small fish pretty confident always at the front to be fed 🙂

Lined Barbs
The Barb group is a vast one containing many fish lots will be familiar with - Tiger Barbs, Ruby Barbs, Cherry Barbs etc there are however lots of Barbs much less seen in the hobby but equally great to keep. One such species is this the lined Barb ⭐️
Lined barbs are a peaceful species originating from Indonesia where they inhabit peat swamps and black water streams covered in dense vegetation. These make a wonderful slightly larger addition to planted community tank, they grow to around 5 or 6cm but mix well with smaller species. A nice shoal of these look great with a planted backdrop 👌🏻

Rainbow Cichlid

These beauties are Rainbow Cichlids.. a Central American cichlid that ccurs in eastern Honduras and throughout Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
They usually reach a modest size of around 10-12cm making them an easy fish to accommodate plus, by Central American cichlid standards at least, they aren’t too aggressive. These fish have just recently coloured up beautifully so I wanted to show them off 👌🏻

Pygmy Pufferfish

Back in stock for the weekend we have the ever popular Pygmy Puffers 😍 these little guys have been in a few days now and they’re feeding well… I know these won’t hand around.
Contrary to what you’ll read sometimes these puffers are social a group of 5 or 6 is recommended. You’ll often see them have little scuffles with each other but this is part of their social structure and important for best captive care. Feed a diet of various live and frozen worms plus keep offering pellets such as Vibra bites as there is a chance they’ll move onto them.
