"🌺🐾 On this Remembrance Day, we honor not just the brave soldiers who served but also the incredible animals who fought alongside them. 🐕‍🦺🐴

From messenger pigeons and heroic war dogs to brave horses and other four-legged companions, these animals played vital roles in times of conflict, showing loyalty, courage, and resilience. Their sacrifices and contributions often go unnoticed, but they are a significant part of our history.

Today, let’s take a moment to remember and pay tribute to all the animals who served, reminding ourselves of the bonds they formed with their human counterparts. 🕊️❤️

"🌍✨ Happy National Stress Awareness Day! ✨🐾

Did you know that our furry friends can feel stress just like we do? 🐶😿 Signs of stress in pets can include excessive barking, hiding, destructive behavior, or changes in appetite. It’s important to recognize these signs and provide comfort and support to help them feel safe.

On the flip side, owning a pet can be a wonderful stress reliever for us! 🥰 Studies show that spending time with pets can lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety, and boost overall mood. Their unconditional love and companionship can turn a tough day around.

Let’s check in on our pets today and make sure they’re feeling relaxed and happy.

🎃 Halloween Pet Safety Tips 🎃
Halloween can be a scary time of year not just for those participating in trick or treating, but for our pets, who may find unexpected knocks at the door and people dressed in costumes unsettling. Here are a few simple steps you can take to help keep your pets safe and happy this Halloween:

🌅🐕Walk dogs early to avoid costumes & fireworks
🍫🚫Secure human treats away from pets
🚪🔒Prevent door dashing when trick-or-treaters arrive
👻❌Skip pet costumes - they can cause discomfort
🍽️😌Feed pets early & provide calming activities
🏠💤 Consider leaving dogs at home during trick-or-treating

Remember, a calm pet is a happy pet 🥰

Bat Week is an international, annual celebration designed to raise awareness about the need for bat conservation. At J&S we occasionally see these amazing little creatures and recommend anyone who finds a bat to contact their local branch of the Bat Conservation Trust (BCT) who will care for and rehabilitate these wonderful flying mammals

To all our bird owners, there is a new government requirement to register birds which are kept in numbers of less than 50 by 1st October (details on gov.uk website)
Psitticines and passerines ( e.g parrots/budgies/ finches ) are exempt if housed indoors so mainly this information is for pet poultry keepers.

Staff Spotlight! Meet one of our Vet Nurses, Chloe (and her gorgeous puppy Florrie). We asked Chloe a few questions about her role and why she enjoys being a vet nurse at Johnson and Scott. This is what she said.....
What inspired you to become a vet nurse? - I have always loved animals and I wanted to pursue a career in caring for them.
Can you share a memorable moment while working at J&S? - I enjoy working with the team to support and care for emergencies from admission to discharge. For example, we looked after a dog involved with a road traffic collision who arrived needing critical, emergency care and when left us a few days later with a wagging tail, it was very rewarding.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to become a vet nurse? - Try to get as much experience as possible with a variety of animals. A caring attitude and working well within a team is essential!
Thank you Chloe, the team love working with you too!
