๐Ÿ˜บโ˜€๏ธ Summer Cat Care Tips ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿฑ
Keep your feline friends cool and comfortable this summer with these purr-fect tips:

๐Ÿ’ง Fresh water: Always provide clean, cool water. Consider a cat fountain to encourage drinking.
โ„๏ธ Cool spots: Create shady retreats or cool surfaces for your cat to lounge on as they will seek shade.
๐ŸชŸ Window safety: Be cautious with leaving windows and doors ajar for indoor cats - ensure screens or locking mechanisms to prevent falls or escapes.
๐ŸงŠ Frozen treats: Try freezing wet food for a cool snack.
๐ŸŒก๏ธ Never leave cats in hot cars: Even a few minutes can be dangerous.
๐Ÿงผ Grooming: Regular brushing helps remove excess fur and keeps cats cooler.
๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ Parasite prevention: Summer means more fleas and ticks. Keep treatments up to date!
๐Ÿšฐ Watch for dehydration: Signs include lethargy, dry gums, and decreased skin elasticity.
๐Ÿ  Check sheds, greenhouses and garages before closing them up at night as cats can find their way into cool, shady spots for a nap

Remember, if you're worried about your cat's health this summer, we're just a call away!

๐ŸพHeatstroke Alert: Keeping your dogs safe on summer walks
With temperatures continuing to stay high, we wanted to remind everyone to be extra cautious during walks and how to spot the signs of heatstroke:

โฐ Time it right: Walk early morning or late evening when it's cooler.
๐Ÿฅพ Paw check: If the pavement's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for paws! Stick to grass or shaded areas.
๐Ÿ’ง Hydrate: Bring water and a portable bowl for frequent drink breaks.
๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ Keep it short: Shorter, more frequent walks are better than long ones in the heat.
๐Ÿงข Shade breaks: Rest often in shaded spots.
๐Ÿšซ Know when to skip: Some days, it's safer to play indoors.
๐Ÿš— Never leave pets in hot cars, even for a minute!

โš ๏ธ๐Ÿšจ Warning signs of heatstroke: ๐Ÿšจโš ๏ธ
Excessive panting
Drooling
Lethargy or collapse

If you suspect heatstroke- call us immediately!

๐Ÿšจ Grass Seed Alert! ๐Ÿšจ
As summer continues, we want to remind all pet owners about the dangers of grass seeds to dogs and cats.

These tiny seeds can:
Become lodged in paws, ears, eyes, or skin
Cause painful abscesses
Lead to serious infections if left untreated

Keep your pets safe:
โœ… Check your pet's coat after walks, especially paws and ears
โœ… Trim fur between paw pads
โœ… Stick to paths when grass is long and seeding

If you suspect your pet has a grass seed problem, don't delay - contact us immediately for an examination.

โœ… Visit pet-friendly beaches
โœ… Update those vaccinations
โœ… Double-check ID tag info
โœ… Pack plenty of fresh H2O
โœ… Keep human snacks (like chocolate and grapes) out of reach
โœ… Avoid midday sun to prevent overheating
โœ… Steer clear of jellyfish and sharp objects in the sand
โœ… Be a vigilant lifeguard when your dog is near or in the water- not all dogs are natural swimmers
โœ… Rinse off any sand, salt, or other irritants from those delicate paws at the end of the day

Take care when exercising your pets today. It's rumoured to be hot. Take water and walk in the cooler times or even not at all.
Hyperthermia is common especially in the very active dog or those who have respiratory issues. Dogs can only control their temperature by panting so take care and stay safe.

๐Ÿ“ข Important Announcement for Cat Owners! ๐Ÿ“ข
As of June 10th, a new law came into effect requiring all cats to be microchipped from 20 weeks of age (this also applies to indoor cats) Microchipping is a quick and simple procedure that provides a permanent form of identification for your cat and greatly increases the chances of their safe return home if they ever go missing. Kittens can also be microchipped at the same time as neutering providing they are under 20 weeks, while they are under anaesthetic.
To ensure compliance with the new law and ensure your cat's security we encourage all our clients to schedule an appointment with our nurses to have your cat microchipped as soon as possible. Call us at 01353 634123 to book your appointment today.

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons have introduced new regulations with effect from today. The RCVS require all vets to perform a clinical examination of your pet before we are able to dispense routine flea and worm medication. The idea is to minimise the blanket use of both flea and worm medication at times when the risk is low but this change may require us to examine your pet before further flea and worm medication can be dispensed.
Please contact the surgery to order your medication rather than just popping in and our staff will be able to help and advise you.

Happy New Year
Jo and Cathy
