Fabulous afternoon of sniffing for Talking Dogs Scentwork Scent 4 at Denny Abbey and The Farmland Museum.

Everyone worked their socks off, with some tricky conditions to contend with.

Jam donuts definitely helped. 🍩

Wow! What a magnifiScent morning of scentwork fun at Vets 1 Group in Kings Lynn.

We turned the consult rooms into escape/games rooms and had almost 50 dogs through the doors for some sniffing fun!

Thank you Simon for inviting me, to the staff and assistants of Vets 1 for helping run the session, and to all of the wonderful dogs and their humans for embracing the fun.

Please come join us for a morning of sniffy and scratchy adventure and canine brain and body enrichment! We will be turning our four consult rooms into cheese laden escape rooms for you and your pup or wise old hound to explore. In partnership with your canine friend, work through the Crime Scene, the Casino, the Gameshow and as February is the month of love, the Star Crossed Lovers area…..

Supportive scent works main focus is towards working as a team with your dog to build confidence, trust and focus. It's great for dogs of all ages from impulsive pups to steady seniors. Working your dog's brain helps them burn mental energy without any impact on their growing bones or stiff joints.

Sniffing helps to reduce cortisol, therefore lowering stress. It reduces the heart rate, much like deep breathing in Humans. Endorphins are released in the brain creating feelings of happiness and calmness which reduces anxiety. When endorphin levels are low the dog is likely to feel under stress which can present itself as various behaviour problems and It is scientifically proven that dogs that are not allowed to use their sense of smell can become depressed.

When we work as a team with our dog, offering support when needed, they learn to trust us which improves our relationship in all other aspects too, particularly in scenarios where they may feel worried.

We will run the morning as a drop in session, no appointment needed. Basic refreshments will be provided along with a warm welcome and as many smiles as our faces can cope with…

Hello

I opted to leave my quill and ink pot alone yesterday. The UK and Ireland was in the grip of storm Eowyn. A life was lost and many people in different counties to ourselves are this morning assessing damage to their homes and businesses. There is a time to share whimsical thoughts and a time to be dignified and silent. Thoughts this morning are with those less fortunate than ourselves.

The week at Vets 1 was rip roaring busy until Thursday. The phones fell quiet for the first time this year allowing us a chance to take a deep breath and then launch into a deep clean. Odd days of zero drama are a blessing. It indicates healthy pets. It allows us to take stock and look at ourselves as a business - which we have been doing a lot since the start of the year. In partnership with one of the leading business training providers in our region we have been working out what we stand for, our core values, our vision for the future, where we are positioned in our community.

What emerges from these sessions is never what you expect. Our headline core value we have established is, ‘Human First’. Which is odd becuase we are a Vets. Human First sits alongside our prime responsibility which is to provide exemplary care to every critter that comes through our doors. Human First is a statement for how we support each other in times of need - how we protect our tribe. It’s about being brave and committed enough to use every asset at our disposal to help whatever the need might be. Our tribe extends beyond our walls and into our community - that’s you guys.

Saturday morning next week, 10am to 1pm. we are inviting our Tribe to join us in our Kings Lynn practice. In partnership with Sally Talbot from Happy Hounds Adventures we are converting the four downstairs consult rooms into canine scratchy, sniffy, adventure zones. The session is totally free. No charge. Just come along, grab a cup of tea and smile with us as your dog enjoys brain and body enrichment. Join me for some Winter wags & wellness in my MagnifiScent Movement classes which are a combo of parkour and simple scentwork.

Engaging activities like parkour and scentwork are not only physically tiring, mentally too, leaving you with a tired, content dog.

Parkour is a great way for your dog to learn how to navigate different obstacles slowly and in control.
It's a great activity for them to build strength, use their brain, and help them to focus.

What dog doesn't love to sniff?!
Scentwork is another great way to tire your dog using their brain.
It boosts their confidence and reduces the stress hormone, cortisol, so is great for shy or nervous dogs.
It helps excitable to dogs to harness their energy and improve their focus and sense of calm.
It increases endorphins - the happy hormone, so it makes them happy 😊

Sessions are twice a month at Redmere.
Tuesdays 10:30 - 11:30am.

It's taken Daisy a VERY long time to learn to pick something up and for ages we've just had a nose touch or quick mouth grab.

Daisy takes a lot longer than Fen to learn something new. She needs a lot of encouragement and feedback or she will really lose confidence.

For the past 2 or 3 weeks in our Trickdogs Training class she's been working towards 'tidy your toys'.

No class tonight but Daisy and Fen didn't get the memo so we practised, and she can now take her object from one dish and put it in another 🙌👏

6 years ago, we rescued this little treasure from Many Tears Animal Rescue

The festive season is always tinged with sadness as we lost Merlin 14th Dec '14 and Harry 13th Dec '17.

Fen brought us the magic and sparkle we all needed (and, of course, lots of new lessons to learn, as they do) so we could smile again.

A 'breeder', a home, back to the 'breeder', then to rescue where they named him Bounce, then to foster where they named him Slinky, then finally, his forever home at 14 weeks old, with us in the Cambridgeshire Fens, so we named him Fen.

He was everything we needed and more 🧡

10 years! Since I became an Accredited Talking Dogs Scentwork Trainer.

So many happy dogs and handlers since then, and still we continue to reap the benefits and spread the joys of scentwork.

Scentwork doesn't have to be complicated. In fact, your dog loves it when it's not.
What it must be is fun and supportive.

Mine and my dogs lives have been much richer since I did my first ever scent workshop with Talking Dogs Scentwork and my wingman, Harry. Thank you for all you taught me 💜🐾
