Look at that! Sunshine and mild temperatures during the day; bit of frost overnight. Could this be the week the fields dry out and the mud goes away for the winter?

Everything crossed 🤞

Book your walks and make the most of this glorious sunshine

😢 Wednesday Whinge 😢

I hate doing this, but I also hate finding cigarette butts in the field, and human rubbish in the dog poo bins.

Our fields are non-smoking - for the simple reason that discarded butts can cause rapidly-spreading field fires in the summer, and they are a danger to wildlife all year round. They take decades to break down.

And our bins are for dog poo not human rubbish. Our waste contractors take only dog poo, so I had the fun job of removing all the cans, packets, amazon packaging this morning. Please take your rubbish home with you.

Thank you.

The Woody Mud Scale makes an unwelcome return in 2025!

Fortunately no repeat of the floods and ad hoc water features of 23/24, but the weekend's rain has left some puddles, and the gateways are muddy on top of the mud control mats.

In good news, the field is drying out and rain forecast is low.

Don't forget our Valentines photo competition and get your walks booked before 16th February.

Let's talk obstacles!

As the first dog parkour instructor in the UK, and a former agility competitor and trainer, with a strong interest in the physical and mental health of our dogs (I have an MSc in Clinical Animal Behaviour), you can bet I am very fussy about what we added to the field.

Maximum safety; minimum risk of harm.

Our obstacles are lower, wider, more robust than any standard agility equipment. Agility is a skill, and carries a higher risk of injury especially if the equipment is used by dogs and owners who are less familiar or unaware of how to teach and use it safely.

We don't have any wooden jumps - repetitive jumping, especially over obstacles that are fixed in place, is a major contributor to arthritic changes later in life. And with fixed jumps dogs are at greater risk of serious injury if they hit the jump awkwardly. This post was prompted by the news that one of my friend's dogs is currently having surgery to save his leg after crashing in to a fixed jump.

Similarly, we don't have hoop jumps for the same reason. Agility hoops have been padded and the breakaway kind - which separate if hit - since 2018 in order to maximise safety for the dogs.

Our obstacles are designed to give dogs the chance to be dogs, increase confidence, do lots of sniffing, and to be as safe as possible for all shapes and sizes.

Enjoy!
