This is written with a heavy heart ❤️
After many years of many dogs I have made the decision to fully reduce my hours down.
Centre Barks Ely will only operate now on a Monday with a skeleton crew of dogs which I have chosen to keep on.
It has been a hard decision and has taken me ages to write the message and tell people but I have honestly had the best job in the world 🌎
COVID was difficult for us humans as much as it was for the dogs. They must have wondered where their social life had gone when we Dog Walkers had to stop for the weeks in the beginning. The first walk after the Government gave us the go ahead to start again my doggie group ran and ran and chatted to each other all the way round the fields. I could hear them.. ‘wow you have gained a little weight’ ‘oh wow look at you, your hair looks beautiful long’ It was blissful and I stood and cried because the realisation that they needed their friends as much as we did at that time ❤️
Myself and family thankyou all for the support you have given Centre Barks since I began 8 years ago.
One last full week next week and then new beginnings for me… I am sure I will see you walking your fur babies around the Market Square

Watch out for those ticks!! 😬😬🐶🐶

This tick has been hanging around for us to show people for a while. After months in a sealed container with no additional feeding she laid eggs. This gives you an idea of how long a tick can be dormant and how many eggs one female can lay. Remember ticks bloom again in the fall so keep up with prevention.

Please read and take note.. too many people still walking their dogs 🐕

It is really hot here today where we are yet we have seen so many people out walking there dogs in open fields, pavements etc. Please share this post to help make others aware of the risks and what is considered safe.

Now that summer is here, we are to expect lots of hot weather and it is important to make sure we keep our dogs happy and healthy throughout. Here are a few tips to help make sure your dog stays cool and does not overheat.

1.On days when a heatwave is forecast, only walk your dog before sunrise or when the temperate drops. Remember, it is okay to skip walks completely during the hot weather. you may even find your dog will prefer this.

2. On the days it is ok to walk but is still hot, stick to shaded areas such as woodlands and keep off of the concrete/pavement. Remember to take plenty of water for your dog.

3. Avoid strenuous walks and exercise eg. No running, no playing fetch. On lead walks are much safer when it's hot.

4. Make sure your dog has plenty of shaded area in the garden. even on hot days 5 minutes or so is okay to pop outside for fresh air and toilet breaks but shaded areas are a must.

5. If you can, purchase a cool mat or vest for your dog or alternatively a wet towel to lay on our drape over your dog is good too.

6. Providing an extra water bowl with added electrolytes is a good thing to help give your dog that extra boost on very hot days. Try Shanzi Naturals Pet Electrolyte.

7. Pets at risk of sun burn may benefit from sun cream especially on their ears, noses and bellies or areas where skin is exposed. We have a natural pet sun cream on our website if you are unsure where to purchase a pet safe cream.

Signs your dog may be overheating include heavy panting, excessive thirst, glazed eyes, vomiting/diarrhoea, bright or dark red tongue and gums, unsteadiness, high temperature, weakness, increased heart rate, unconsciousness, drooling and seizures. Consult with a vet immediately if you think your dog may be showing signs of overheating.
