A nasty crack caused by a sharp stone

The priority for me is to stabilise the crack and allow it to heal at the coronet band,
I debribed as much as possible and glued it back in place with an equilox patch, then applied a hoof cast for extra stability, finally I floated a bar shoe to unload the affected area I'm confident it will heal but there may be some scarring (false quarter)

First time shoeing this horse, presented with damage to the coronet band causing an irregular growth which I trimmed off to keep neat and tidy

Just a quick message, I havent been as active on here in recent months due to being busy in the thick of foaling season and showjumping in full swing

As most of my clients know, I've recently joined up with my former employer in England Gary Pickford at Chapel Forge Farriers
Gary brings years of experience in showjumping and in particular the thoroughbred industry

Our goal is to have a tailored made service that provides good quality shoeing and trimming in a timely fashion

Flat Feet Friday

A horse with severe under run heels and long toes.

This is my first time to shoe this horse and hoping for major improvement on the angle of the heels and overall shape of the hoof capsule.

Horse was slightly lame before shoeing and trotted off sound after shoeing.

Weak Feet Friday

This horse has extremely thin walls and soles, I applied equitech hoof cast for support and protection, allowing me to nail on an aluminium century support plate

Horse is moving a lot happier in these instead of being nailed directly onto his soles.

Make over Monday!

This Pony was diagnosed with HWSD.

Hoof Wall Separation Disease (HWSD) is a debilitating condition which is found primarily in Connemara ponies.

It affects all 4 feet and causes the hoof wall to crumble and collapse.

There is no cure as such but in this case I have rockered all 4 feet to increase break over and reduced the mechanical stress on the hoof wall.

I am pleased with the outcome but will know how successful it will be in 4/5 weeks.
