Large dog groomimg π₯°
It's that time of year again - people wanting their large dogs groomed for Summer.
Grooming as a job is very much physically, emotionally, and mentally demanding.
Have compassion and appreciation for your groomer! It's not an easy job!
Please read the following..ππ
I LOVE large dogs!
Big dogs are definitely my favourite kind of dogs...HOWEVER...for grooming if your big dog has never been groomed before and is now 3, or is groomed once a year and isn't really keen - I will ask a lot of questions, and if I'm happy with the answers that it will be manageable - book you an appointment, or alternatively advise you to a groomer who doesn't work alone..
Sometimes (very rarely) unfortunately, said dog arrives and it can't be groomed due to behavioural issues. It doesn't mean your dog is a bad dog, or an aggressive dog - it just means I am keeping myself right as my hands are currently my livelyhood, and I really am not comfortable putting an anxious dog through a couple of hours ordeal.
A nervous dog... (God love them you know yourself how it feels to be very anxious and NERVOUS, could you imagine feeling so scared you p**p or p*e yourself!? Well imagine how your dog feels when it does that on our table.. it's not fair on your dog) ...can be a fearful dog, and dogs may turn to aggression out of fear. Understandably.
Always be truthful with your groomer, we really appreciate it and it can make the difference in your dog expieriencing a positive or negative groom, if we know what to expect we can prepare and advise you accordinglyπ
A positive experience can always be created, it may take extra time and effort..
The Answer???
REGULAR GROOMING!!!
Start as early as possible, and LISTEN to your groomer when they advise 4/6/8/12 weekly visits, it becomes familiar to the dog, it is routine not punishment and they build up a rapport with us! We love your dogs - generally we chose the industry/career because of our love for our canine kindπβ€οΈ
I am selective with the LARGE dogs I groom, please do not be offended if I decline your dog, if it's booked in from a pup 12 weeks+, and attends regularly, never do I have any problems.
Mostly owners are co operative, apologetic and understanding in circumstances where the dog is unable to be groomed or needs a bit more time, effort or attention, which we really do appreciate it makes a massive difference than dealing with a customer whose dog's behaviour generally falls back on themselves and the lack of commitment to regular grooming - we do all try our best! It's wonderful when we can work togetherπ
Regular Grooming! - Makes for happy, healthy, little and large dogs.π
This info also goes for some small/medium sized dogs also,
