Our BHS Ireland Horse Health Days on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Castledillon, Ballyskeagh Stables and Tullymurry Equestrian Centre were excellent! 28 horse and rider combinations received valuable information from our team of equine professionals.
Alan Hiscox and Des Payne from the BHS Safety Team were generous with their knowledge of all things safety which included their ongoing work for all horses and riders plus very important information on trailer and lorry safety and maintenance.
Dr Esther Skelly Smith BVMedSci (Hons) BVM BVS PCAC PgCert (WVA&CPM) MRCVS gave a demo on spotting the subtle signs of pain and lameness, Dr Helen Spence, a clinical animal behaviourist specialising in equines, gave an insight into what our horse are telling us by their facial expressions and behaviour, Mark Robinson BHS I, BHS Stage 5 Performance Coach looked at bits, bitting, and bridle fit and overall tack fit and explained the conformation of the horse’s head and mouth, Naomi Davies, Horse Care & Welfare Coordinator weighed horses and discussed management options (Naomi presented two rosettes for perfect weight and condition) and finally the team from CAFRE Enniskillen provided free worm count testing and valuable information on worms, anthelmintic resistance and worm control strategies.
This team made a positive difference to the lives of horses and riders!! Thank you Alll!

The CAFRE team will be carrying out worm counts for each horse participating at the The British Horse Society Ireland Horse Health Days this weekend. This is extremely useful in confirming the requirement of wormers to help avoid over worming, inadvertently building up a resistance. Some spaces still available. Book via the The British Horse Society Ireland page.
