๐พ๐ Bad breath isn't just a stinky problem - it could be a sign of oral health issues for your pet!
While occasional "doggy breath" is normal, persistent bad breath could indicate:
๐ฆท Plaque or tartar buildup
๐ฆท Gum disease
๐ฆท Tooth decay
๐ฆท Oral infections
Left untreated, these issues can lead to pain, tooth loss, or even affect your pet's overall health.
Here are some of our suggestions on how to keep your pet's mouth fresh and healthy:
โ๏ธ Regular brushing with pet-safe toothpaste
โ๏ธ Dental treats or chews
โ๏ธ Annual professional dental cleanings
โ๏ธ Routine check-ups
If your pet's breath could clear a room, it might be time to book a check-up with us!
Let's work together to keep those tails wagging and teeth sparkling.

๐ซ๐พ Happy Chocolate Day! While we humans love indulging in sweet treats (dark, milk, or white!), it's a day to remind pet owners about the hidden dangers chocolate poses to our pets.
Chocolate contains theobromine, which is highly toxic to cats and dogs. The darker the chocolate, the more dangerous it is!
Signs of chocolate poisoning include:
๐จ Vomiting or diarrhoea
๐จ Muscle tremors
๐จ Seizures
๐จ Irregular heartbeat
If your pet gets curious and sneaks a bite, don't wait - call your local vet straight away. Let's keep today sweet and safe for everyone. ๐๐ถ๐ฑ

Meet Hovis - a brave little patient who beat Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP)! ๐ฑ
FIP is a serious and once-fatal disease caused by a mutation of feline coronavirus. It leads to severe inflammation in various parts of the body, including the abdomen, lymph nodes, eyes, and brain.
Until recently, FIP was considered untreatable. Thanks to groundbreaking antiviral treatment now available in the UK, many cats are getting a second chance at life.
Hovisโ journey began when his devoted owners noticed he was lethargic, lost his appetite and developed diarrhoea. They immediately brought him to our Epping practice. Our veterinary team got very concerned about his high fever. He was admitted to our hospital for further investigation and treatment. We detected anaemia and signs of inflammation in his bloodwork. An abdominal ultrasound revealed enlarged lymph nodes and abnormal fluid in his abdomen. With further diagnostic testing, we confirmed what we suspectedโFIP.
We immediately started Hovis on antiviral treatment along with intensive supportive nursing care. Slowly but surely, we saw a remarkable improvementโhis appetite returned, his energy levels soared, and his test results improved.
After several days in the hospital, he continued his recovery at home under the watchful care of his loving owners. Today, weโre thrilled to report that Hovis has been in complete remission for over nine months!
FIP is no longer a death sentence, and Forest Veterinary Centre is proud to be part of this incredible advancement in feline medicine. If youโre concerned about your catโs health or want to learn more about FIP, donโt hesitate to reach out to our team.

Meet Princess Peach (white hen) and Bobbie Ross (brown hen).
Peach and Bobbie are companions of Carly who works within our client care team for Harlow and Epping. Peach was sadly attacked by a stoat, which managed to severely damage her wing. Luckily, our Veterinary Surgeon, Kat, saw her as an emergency and managed a successful wing amputation.
Peach has learnt to balance well without it, and her sister Bobbie has since treated her like a chick and has taken her under her wing (literally!) ๐๐ฅ

Introducing Kitty. Kitty is our practice cat at Harlow; she has been with us at Forest Vets since April 2022. She was rushed to us by the police, who were worried about her health. She had been locked outside for days, possibly without food and water due to uncontrollable circumstances.
Since being part of our team, she has provided lots of happy memories, snuggles and sass. She is a very important part of our team and provides kitty therapy.
Her favourite things are being brushed, playing with feathers and a good cuddle!
Watch this space for kitty updates. ๐ฑ๐ป

January is the perfect time to focus on your dog's physical health, and regular walks play a key role in keeping your canine companion fit and happy.
Here's how dog walking boosts their well-being:
๐Regular walks help keep your dog's heart healthy and improve circulation, reducing the risk of heart disease.
๐ Walking helps burn calories and maintain a healthy weight, preventing obesity and the health issues that come with it.
๐ Consistent exercise strengthens muscles and supports joint flexibility, helping prevent stiffness and arthritis in older dogs.
๐Walking helps boost your dog's stamina and energy levels, promoting overall vitality and an active lifestyle.
๐ Regular walks can help regulate your dog's digestive system, preventing constipation and improving overall gut health.

Happy World Chocolate Day! ๐ซ
Although World Chocolate Day is a joyous occasion for chocolate enthusiasts, it's essential to be mindful that chocolate can be highly dangerous to pets, especially dogs and cats. ๐ถ๐บ
Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, both of which are harmful to animals. The darker the chocolate, the more harmful it can be. Even small quantities can lead to serious health problems such as vomiting, diarrhoea, rapid breathing, elevated heart rate, and, in severe instances, seizures or, worse, death.
By taking a few simple precautions, we can ensure a safe and enjoyable World Chocolate Day for all, including our pets. Here are some pet-friendly tips to consider:
๐ซKeep chocolate out of reach: Store your tempting chocolates in secure containers or cabinets to prevent dogs from reaching them.
๐ซ Educate friends and family: Inform your loved ones about the dangers of chocolate for dogs and ask them to keep chocolate products away from your dog.
๐ซ Avoid sharing: Refrain from sharing chocolate with your pet, as even a small amount can be detrimental.
๐ซ Stay alert: Be observant of signs of chocolate ingestion in your dog, such as restlessness, increased heart rate, vomiting, or diarrhoea. If you suspect your pet has consumed chocolate, contact your vet without delay.
If you suspect your pet has ingested chocolate and is experiencing vomiting or any of these symptoms, please get in touch with us immediately.
