Queenbee aka Elsa

You wouldn’t believe she’s 10 years old, she looks amazing, but you also wouldn’t believe she was diagnosed with terminal cancer over 2 years ago and given a maximum of 12 months to live!

Due to location and the fact I’ve seen cancer just regrow, we decided not to touch her tumour maybe that has helped her live a longer life with us, I don’t know, she looks fantastic going into the shooting season!

She is just fed lamb n rice senior mixed with their complete tripe, as she’s known for carrying weight and no supplements she is completely sound and full of beans!

Our dogs are our world and live their full entire lives with us, she is one in a million! 💕🐾 you will shortly see the final pic feature in an upcoming article I’ve written, exciting times, Elsa with her two daughters!

Supporting small businesses that support you back and giving them a bigger audience. Our blankets go down so well with puppy owners, handmade with love and left with the pups so they smell of here when they leave! 💕 highly recommend!

Puppies are not clean slates !
You often hear people say 'get a puppy they are a clean slate'

As a behaviourist and breeder I can confidently tell you this is not true. Both nature and nurture has a huge impact.
A puppy will inherit genes from its parents and these genes will impact the puppies genetic potential to behave in a particular way.
Such as :
Using aggression as a strategy to deal with difficult situations
Sociability towards people and dogs
Fearful responses
Sound sensitivity
Strong instinctive behaviour to hunt, chase, grab, hold and guard.
Trainability which includes the ability to learn self control as humans desire it.

When people breed dogs they sometimes select for specific traits and sometimes not. If someone is breeding for a particular look, colour or just money then these traits can become altered becoming stronger or weaker or unbalanced. This can make a dog dangerous for example breeding a dog with gameness and reducing human sociability.

Then the puppy is born and the first 8 weeks learning with the breeder will have an huge impact on the development of all these genetic traits.

My five puppies have all come from the same parents and been reared in the same environment. They have very individual personalities. The training and socialisation they receive in their new homes will only influence the genes and first learning, it won't change their personalities.

So if you are looking for a puppy
Firstly learn about breed traits and instincts and make sure you pick a puppy that will suit your lifestyle. For example there no point getting a breed that is 'aloof with strangers' if you have 3 young children and lots of friends visiting.

Secondly meet the parents or (genes), see what they are like. Make sure you are meeting the actual parents, some people buy in puppy farmed litters and then 'hire' an adult of the same breed to pretend the puppies were bred there!!

Thirdly make sure the puppy has had plenty of early neurological stimulation and learning before it leaves the litter. Ask these questions.
1) What have the puppies seen?
2) Who and what have they met?
2) What have they learnt?
3) How have they learned to play?
4) What do they do if they get frustrated?
5) What do they do if they get bored?

A professional trainer can help support and guide you on the process of looking for a puppy. Don't wait till afterwards for help.

Prevention IS better than Cure. This goes for training and socialisation too, get a professional to help and guide you.

Puppies are building neural pathways with every experience, every day, make sure they're building ones you like.

First Learning is the strongest, make sure you get it right first time.

This is an old photo which came up on my memories this morning, it’s 10 years old and one of when the Queen aka Elsa was new to our lives, she was the best baby sitter here with Myer’s litter! She certainly is Queenbee now 😂

She loved babies, she was the ultimate Andrex puppy!

Wow what a step back for Labradors, this is utterly ridiculous, the responsible breeders are striving to do everything right putting blood sweat and tears into doing every test possible and breeding from good lines trying to help future puppies, now they are advising the hip scoring is advisable not essential.

All the tests should be essential and people should know this, the public buying puppies are reading the content that is published and breeders will now be advising how essential the hip scores are…..

I’m sat on the fence about the breed average, as so many bad scores are not sent (that’s a whole other issue) but come on make all the tests essential!

When we say our dogs are true family dogs, this picture speaks a thousand words; the dogs adore Thomas they are brilliant with him and he is fab with them, yes we are still learning boundaries (Thomas not the dogs) but the dogs just understand. Mainly not letting everyone out of the kennels and locking yourself inside! 😂

No matter how much I trust them they are never left unattended together, toddlers can do random things when your backs turned so always remember that!

We’re very lucky to have such kind lines. The prep is well underway for the upcoming season, although how Thomas is going to get about the jury is out as I can’t carry him any more 😂 suggestions welcome

Another day in the field, another shoot for us, this one was a stunner, what a stunning old style estate! I never knew it even existed and it was beautiful. We are so spoilt in the Cotswolds, for some reason this is the only pic I took, I think I was too busy admiring the view 🫣🐾 we all had a fab day, let’s hope for an invite back! 🤞🤞

Today one of the guns came up to me and said this is one of yours, I said I don’t breed chocolates, he said no this is out of our lovely Percy (Springador). I had been admiring it working today all day, he said it’s the best dog he’s ever owned and adores it and he’s had a lot of dogs in the past all pure breeds! I don’t do many cross breeds with the boys, but the breeder uses our springers and creates some belters & lots have gone to working homes, I was very proud. I know a lot of stud owners won’t agree with me and refuse crosses but I am very choosy about it.

Our pups have their bags packed and ready for their new adventure, I always hate the day and will miss them dearly and usually always cry but their new families are very excited! All my love and care has been put into this litter as with all our litters, be good kids and keep in touch! Thanks as always to for the products for their packs and our own branded bags for added effect along with our extensive paperwork and info sheets! 🐾🐾

Had the hubbies Jack out with us again today, he’s such a fab dog to work, for a spaniel he’s steady and reliable, unlike our wonderful crazy hunting machine Gertie! 😂 3 days back to back that should wear them out! Let’s hope for a drier day tomorrow, new coat held its own today so thanks goes to I’m really loving it

Another week done another new shoot for us, we must be doing something right as keep getting invites! Sadly wasn’t meant to be as we were fogged off, such a shame as we were so close to home! We managed one drive! Hopefully we will be back again soon! Let’s hope the weather man has the forecast wrong for next week 🤞🫣 xx

Got a special invite today, we ventured to a new shoot thanks to a lovely friend, we had a lovely day & took the select few. Thick fog to start ending in glorious sunshine, red decided it was a good day to sit under a tree and pheasant watch on two separate drives! Wasn’t ideal! 😂 dogs are not machines! On to another new place Saturday, phew thought we might have to do house work!
