The Farm Animal Sanctuary Established over 30 years ago, The Farm Animal Sanctuary is the UK's first of its kind. Support our vital work through donations, sponsorships, and visits.

We provide a safe haven for over 600 rescued farm animals, including sheep, pigs, and horses. Farm animals are global. They are not endangered, exotic or wild. They are animals who are born and raised for their meat and milk, and throughout the world very often do this with a minimum of care. Care costs time and money, and they’re not considered to be worth either. They are just another product, a

lthough unlike other food products such as grains, fruits and vegetables, they bleed when they are injured. They die from fear and stress. They suffer distress when their young are taken away from them. They can be kept until they are too old to stand as long as they can still produce milk or offspring. They can then be travelled hundreds of miles, enduring awful conditions, to be slaughtered without pre-stunning. There are very few places throughout the world where farm animals can find sanctuary to be able to live out their lives in peace, to be treated with kindness and respect. We watch these animals become comfortable and confident. We see their characters develop. We admire their intelligence and the way they embrace their peaceful surroundings. We watch them begin to play and finally become content. They form close companionships and soon recognise the people who care for them and look after them. They ask for very little. For us it’s a pleasure and a privilege to be part of their daily lives. This is why we are here.

💔 It was Freds’ time 💔
The big, handsome, giant hearted Irish thoroughbred with impeccable classic breeding ❤️.
Now in his late twenties, age began to tell, slowly at first, then a suspected stroke which left him looking confused and not his usual nosy, self 😢. He wasn’t the happy Fred we all knew and loved 💔😢
Fred had evented, even qualifying for Badminton, they don’t come any braver than that.
After retirement he was used as a guardian Nanny for weaned foals, Fred taught them manners in a kind way 🐴❤️. He was a big gentle giant ❤️.
Sadly his owner lost some of his ground so Fred became redundant and we happened to have a Fred sized space, otherwise his future was looking bleak. He quickly made himself at home at the Sanctuary 🥰🐴
Always the gentleman, we were happy to be able to give him the life he’d earned.
Joel, who has been Fred's companion for many years, watched silently until Fred found peace. It seems he had an inkling of what was coming 💔😢.
You were truly one of a kind, Fred, and you will be deeply missed by everyone at the sanctuary. Joel will think of you everyday ❤️

Today has been a tough one. It’s very cold outside 🥶❄️. Every water pipe on the property has frozen, affecting the barns, the pigs, and the few sheep we have out in the paddock (they have a barn to go in if they decide to).
Now, only people with cows can truly understand how much water 14 of them consume while munching on hay and straw—it's more than we can manage! 😩.
Thankfully, we reached out to our go-to guy, Lewis, and he came to our aid ❤️.
After a lot of kettles were used, he managed to defrost our main water pipe, and we finally had water again. We set up a temporary system, and soon enough, the cows and sheep in the barns had their water restored 👏🏼🥳🐮🐑.
Everyone was overjoyed 👏🏼
