Scary fact: The dog training industry is totally unregulated, this means anyone can call themselves a dog trainer or even a behaviourist 😱
It's important for dog owners to understand what accreditations and qualifications they need their trainer to hold before they reach out to them for help!
I thought I would make it nice and easy for my followers to understand where I have gained my education of dog behaviour and why I am one of the most qualified trainers in Devon 😁

From my professional experience working as a Rehabilitation Trainer and Behaviour Advisor in rescue, I've found that a large proportion of dogs being relinquished due to their behaviour may not have reached the point of aggressing had they undergone cooperative care training earlier in their lives.
Teaching dogs and owners how they can communicate between each other is so important to enrich not only a dogs life but the owners too!
My experience in rescue and working as a pet dog trainer has empowered me to design a Life Skills course to give owners the foundations they need for a truly well balanced dog 🐶🐾

Hello, I'm Claudia and these are my two dogs Isca & Roma!

I'm a professional dog trainer , Rehabilitation Trainer & Behaviour Advisor and Foundation Science degree graduate in Applied Canine Behaviour and Training with
I'm also am accredited Animal Training Instructor with & 🐕‍🦺

Since a child I have always wanted to work with dogs but just didn't know how until my early-twenties. After volunteering at Guide Dogs & within local rescues, I found my passion in dog training. Since then I have worked as a multi-species Animal Welfare Assistant in rescue, a Senior Coach at Dogs Trust and am now working my dream job rehabilitating animals to support them in their forever homes 🏡❤️

My professional experience, academic education and working with my own tricky rescue dog has equiped me with a wealth of knowledge and a passion for animal welfare and behaviour that I am able to transfer to my wonderful clients.

It's learning time guys 🐺🤓

The idea of an “alpha” or “dominant” wolf was initially reinforced in the 60's by wildlife biologist David Mech. However, after Mech and other animal behaviorists spent more time studying wolves in their natural environment, they retracted their initial conclusion.

Mech wrote in a published paper;
“One of the outdated pieces of information is the concept of the alpha wolf. “Alpha” implies competing with others and becoming top dog by winning a contest or battle. However, most wolves who lead packs achieved their position simply by mating and producing pups, which then became their pack.”

Additionally, none of the research was ever intended to apply to domestic dogs anyway!

If you meet a trainer that uses terms like 'alpha', 'pack leader' or 'hierarchy' .... RUN 🏃‍♀️💨

Apologies for my lack of posting recently, I have been very busy studying! I hope you and your dogs are keeping nice and cool in this glorious weather! Here is some useful information for the current climate, despite various rumours you CAN give your dogs ice cubes so long as they are not already suffering from heatstroke 🌞🧊🐶
(another cheeky tip, make flavoured ice cubes by freezing stock for extra brownie points from your dogs! I also put frozen peas and sweet corn in mine to trick them into eating some veggies)

Can dogs have ice cubes? There's a lot of misinformation circulating on this topic and we’re here to clear that up.

Meet my new friend.

Roma is a little rescue dog. She gets on really well with other dogs but is worried by people.

I first met her when she joined my UK Sniffer Dogs Scent Work course. She was very shy and timid and stayed well away from me and the other humans.
She sat with her mum and did scent work from a distance!

She then joined my Parkour classes and really began to come out of her shell. She seemed interested in me (and my sausages!). Over the weeks I was able to interact with her slowly and calmly. By the end of the course she was actively coming over to me for a treat.

If you want a nervous dog to be your friend the best way about it is to go at their pace, super slow!
