Little Valley Animal Shelter is owned and run by the South, East and West Devon Branch of the RSPCA and is located on the outskirts of Exeter. The Shelter, founded in 1991, supports the work of local RSPCA inspectors by caring for and rehoming over 1000 of the neediest animals from our local area every year. Little Valley’s running costs are in the region of £10,000 per week and, although we are p

roud to be affiliated with the RSPCA, sadly we receive no automatic funding and we therefore have to rely totally on local support from our own community to fund our vital animal welfare work. All animals stay at the Shelter until they are adopted into caring, responsible homes. A homechecker visits every prospective owner and follow-up checks are made to ensure the animal is well and settled. The Shelter can accept a wide variety of animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents, aviary birds, farm animals and equines. We also hold wildlife, pending their transfer to RSPCA West Hatch in Taunton. Animals are only put to sleep on veterinary advice or because of incurable behavioural problems.

Just look at those long whiskers! This gorgeous girlie is Reesie she is 1 years old. She is a nervous little soul and spends most of her time hiding away, she came from a multi cat household with little human interaction which has resulted in her becoming nervous of people. She has only started coming out of her shell within the last few days to say hello and enjoy a gentle fuss, this being said she is still very timid. She will need a nice quiet home to to settle in at her own pace. She will need to be the only pet in the home as does not like other cats or dogs. She would need to live with adults only as he is nervous.

This beautiful young lady is 4 year old Talia.

She is a chatty, sociable girl who enjoys human company but can become worried by too much physical contact.
Talia can be quite anxious so she will need a quiet and patient new family who will let her settle in at her own pace. We are sure that once Talia has acclimatized, she will become a wonderful lively companion. Talia can be very active and loves to play and explore so she would love a home with a big garden or lots of safe outdoor space for her to enjoy.
Talia would be best suited to an adult only home with no other pets.

Magnificent Merlot has been at the shelter of 3 months now. He was very worried when he first came in, but now he's coming out of his shell and gaining confidence every day. He would dearly love to find his forever home soon.

Merlot is a sensitive lad and he hid away for the first month, but now he is gaining confidence every day. He enjoys fuss and attention from his favourite humans and even a little play with his goldfish toy. We are sure that he will make a wonderful addition for the right family.

As Merlot is quite anxious, he needs a quiet and calm adult only home with no other pets.

🐭 Thank You to the Woman’s Weekly Knitters! 🧶

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in Woman’s Weekly’s Guinness World Record attempt to knit the most knitted and crocheted toys!

Readers from across the country sent in their handmade mice, and hundreds of these adorable toys have now found their way to RSPCA Little Valley. We’ve shared them among our cats at the shelter (who absolutely love them!), sent some to our charity shops to help raise extra funds, and made sure that every adopted cat gets to take a mouse home too.

We’re still waiting to hear if the record has been officially broken—so keep an eye on the news for the result! In the meantime, we want to send a heartfelt thank you to Woman’s Weekly and the incredible community of crafters who made this possible. Your kindness has brought so much joy to our cats. ❤️🐱

Dear sweet little Nala has been at the shelter for 4 months and is still waiting patiently for her forever home.
This gorgeous girlie is 4 years old. She can initially be shy with strangers, but will come over for some fuss when she feels comfortable to do so. She is a sociable and affectionate girl with people she knows well and it’s a great honour when she sits on your lap!

Nala’s new home would need to be fairly local to Exeter as she will need further check ups with our vet following a major dental. Little Valley will be covering the cost of any ongoing dental treatment.

Nala would like to be the only pet in the home as she’s worried by other animals. Nala may be able to live in a family with children of a secondary school age pending on the meet at the shelter.

Please meet marvellous Murray! Murray is 5 years old and is looking for a very special home.

Darling Murray is an affectionate and sociable chap who loves human company and likes nothing more than a comfy lap to sit on after a good play with his favourite feathery toys.
Poor Murray has a history of stress related medical issues so he would be fostered initially while he settles in so we can give him the best start in his new home. We are hopeful that in time, Murray’s fosterers will want to adopt him.

What Murray needs in his new home:

*His own room to start off in such as a spare bedroom
*Patient and gentle support while he settles in
*A quiet family home, he could live with an older teen
*No other pets
*Fairly local to Exeter so we can provide support
*Not left too long on his own as he loves human company

What we provide:

Dear Olive is 2 years old and looking for a very special home as she came into the shelter as a very nervous stray.

Olive has made some good progress since coming in and shows signs of wanting to be sociable with us, and she certainly loves to play by herself especially at night.
We don’t know exactly how much human interaction lovely Olive will want in her new home.
She may be a cat that is more independent and would rather spend more time outside exploring, so her home would need to have a large garden or lots of green space nearby.

Olive is looking for a home with understanding and patient owners who will give her the time and space she needs to find her feet. Ideally she would need to have her own room to start off in while she settles in so she isn’t too overwhelmed by her new surroundings.
Olive would love a quiet household to call her own with no other pets but she could potentially live in a family with a teenager.

'Princess- the pocket bully with a big heart has found a new family! ❤️

Princess came to our shelter due to being physically abused and kept in terrible conditions. When Princess initially came to the shelter, she was really anxious when being handled and would roll on her back to appease. After months of training, enrichment, love and care- Princesses confidence has grown enormously and she has learnt to trust. To celebrate all of Princesses' hard work, we take a look at Princesses highlights at the shelter with Kerry who was one of the members of the animal care team that supported her through her transformation.
