Little Valley Animal Shelter is owned and run by the South, East and West Devon Branch of the RSPCA and is located on the outskirts of Exeter. The Shelter, founded in 1991, supports the work of local RSPCA inspectors by caring for and rehoming over 1000 of the neediest animals from our local area every year. Little Valley’s running costs are in the region of £10,000 per week and, although we are p

roud to be affiliated with the RSPCA, sadly we receive no automatic funding and we therefore have to rely totally on local support from our own community to fund our vital animal welfare work. All animals stay at the Shelter until they are adopted into caring, responsible homes. A homechecker visits every prospective owner and follow-up checks are made to ensure the animal is well and settled. The Shelter can accept a wide variety of animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents, aviary birds, farm animals and equines. We also hold wildlife, pending their transfer to RSPCA West Hatch in Taunton. Animals are only put to sleep on veterinary advice or because of incurable behavioural problems.

Our new Adopt-a-Seagull scheme lets you give a second chance to these unfairly judged birds.

Each adopter will receive a bag of chips, a pair of earplugs, and a reinforced bin.

Please meet 1 year old Goldie. Goldie is finding it very scary being at the Shelter and he's spending most of the time hiding away. His previous owner described him as friendly and other cats from that home are starting to enjoy some attention from us. We are hopeful that Goldie will gain confidence in his new home and start to enjoy human company but we don't really know what his temperament will be like. Goldie would love a quiet, adult only new home where he is the only pet.

Remember me?

Its been 1.5 years of waiting. 1.5 years of watching my neighbours (bunnies) around me find their forever homes. Lots of smiles passing my pen, smiling at my neighbours, but never smiling at me.

When will it be my time? When will a family arrive here and choose that it's me they want to smile at and me they want to take home? 💔

Tofu has been with us for such a long time, with a bit of interest- but always overshadowed by his neighbours. Please share to try and reach this boy the home he so deserves!

As like all of our bunnies he is looking for a home with an existing neutered bunny preferably female.

Bunnies require a minimum accommodation space of a 3x2m area 24/7.

This dear little chap is Foggy he is 1 years old and is very worried. He came from a multi cat household with little human interaction where he was not socialised well with people, which has resulted in him being sacred of everyone. He does not like to be touched at the moment, however we are hoping he will become more confident in his new home with a lot of time and patience from his new owners. He would need to live with adults only. We would need to get to know him better to see if he could live with a calm quiet dog. He wont be able to live with another cat.

Meet Winter, Ozzy, Hazelnut and Pecan a delightful group of budgies now ready for rehoming! We have recently successfully bonded two pairs of budgies together. They have always been indoor companions, and they are looking for a loving home where they can continue to thrive. These playful, active birds enjoy singing along to the radio, filling the room with their cheerful tunes. They would be happiest in a spacious indoor environment, ideally a free-roam bird-dedicated room or a large aviary where they can fly around and explore to their heart's content. 2 year old Milo is otherwise healthy and he adores fuss, attention and loves a good play.

This handsome boy is called Merlin and is about 8 years old. He is a very friendly boy who loves fuss and attention from his human friends! He would like a new home with owners who are happy to provide lots of love and strokes! He is also an active boy and is a keen hunter so you may find the occasional 'gift' on the doormat. This delightful boy will make a wonderful pet and companion. Merlin would like a new home where he is the only pet. This beautiful young lady is called Winnie and is about 2 years old. She is a sweet, sensitive girl who loves human company and fuss but can get a little overwhelmed at times. She will need a quiet home with patient new owners who are happy to give her the time she needs to settle in and gain confidence. Winnie has a very good history and will make a wonderful pet. She is an active girl who loves to play and explore, especially when there is catnip involved! She would like a new home where she is the only pet. She may be able to share it with children of Secondary School age, as long as they all get on when they meet at the Shelter.

Beautiful Maude is about a year old and is a very worried girl. We do not have a lot of information about her history but she is described as friendly. It is likely that she is not used to strangers and struggles with new situations. She is spending most of her time hiding away from us so we are respecting her decision and waiting for her to come to us. It is likely that Maude will come round in time as other cats from the same household are starting to enjoy our company. We cannot say how affectionate she will be so new owners will need to be happy to accept her for whoever she turns out to be. She would be best suited to an adult only home where she is the only pet.
