Yesterday’s routine was turned upside down by the arrival of a very poorly badger cub. She was transferred from South Devon Hedgehog Hospital for emergency treatment. She was collapsed and in shock on arrival with her circulation shutting down. The clinical team set straight to work trying to stabilise her with warmth, medication and aggressive fluid therapy via jugular lines to restore her circulating blood volume.
The suspected cause of her illness is one of many varying types of “lungworm”. These parasitic infections often cause spontaneous bleeding and can be life-threatening.
She is currently still receiving IV fluids, oxygen therapy, medication and 24 hour care provided by our nursing staff until she is fit to transfer to a wildlife rehabilitation centre.
Many thanks to all involved in her rescue and transport to ourselves.
Please keep fingers crossed for the dear little girl, she’s better but not out of the woods yet 🤞
CUTENESS ALERT!!
One of our lovely clients has had a few special arrivals! 🐱🐱
Say hello to dear little Basil!
Basil is very lucky to be alive. On Thursday, he was dumped in a shoe box next a bin in central Exeter. Thankfully, a kind member of the public heard him scratching around and upon discovering him, rushed him to the Surgery.
Basil is now being hand-reared by one of our Nurses and is thankfully, doing very well 😁.
Although this story has a happy ending, there is never an excuse for the abandonment of animals.
Happy Easter! 🌿🐣
Spring has certainly 'sprung' at the practice lately, with an array of orphaned young wildlife brought in requiring extra help.
We thought you'd like to see one of our latest little friends-in-need - baby Bobbin the Robin! Here he is enjoying his hourly feeds, keeping our nurse Sven very busy as always!
(Turn the volume up to hear Bobbin chirping 🎶 )

More puppy party fun!! 🎈🎉
Todd the Jacawawa and his mum kindly brought in some 'bacon bubbles' for everyone to enjoy on their last session. Here's little Todd with his chums Shelby the Dachshund pup and Daff the Pug. Daff is an older dog owned by nurse Cheryl, who sometimes comes in to 'meet and greet' and enhance the socialisation experience 🐶🐕

CUTENESS ALERT! This little boy was admitted to the surgery after having been found out during the day. He was dehydrated, hypothermic and very underweight at only 300g. Faecal samples revealed he is suffering from lungworm for which, he is now receiving medical treatment.
Sometimes you get blood from the cat. Sometimes the cat gets blood out of you!
Just a treat for all our followers,
This fox cub was found on the side of the road with a severe anaemia.
He is now all fixed and at Vale Wildlife rescue with other foxes.
