Lambing 2024
When the weather is delightful and your glad your in a shed!! Half way through lambing now and everything seems to be going a little better! Fingers crossed for some dry days π€π»π€π»
Chartex ewe lambs
We also have some Chartex ewe lambs available. Feb born again. They are composite bred, several generations in now. We have used some very good lines to breed them. Originally out of our pedigree charollais ewes with high index texel tups over then, moving forward mostly with durno bred rams, with some others in the mix. These would certainly breed tups or show stock lambs. Would tup this year. There are a few smaller ones aswell. Born very late in the season. Pm for more info.
Charollais ewe lambs
We have a small selection of charollais ewe lambs available if anyone is interested. They are February born. Sired by a homebred tup which was bred from a logie durno ewe by our old favourite allt luw, or a fox hill tup which was maternal brother to va va voom. I havenβt weighed them but they are reasonable size lambs! Would tup. Just had grass. Pm for more info. Based near Exeter
Suffolk shearling ram
We have some real good Suffolk rams available. High index back breeding, very commercial sorts! Grass reared. Fit and spirited! We have a range of quality and prices on all of our breeds. Based near Exeter . Pm for more info
Doing some harness colour changes this afternoon, for the tupping groups. This mob is the lions share of our Suffolk x charollais composite flock. The tup is also homebred. Much smarter to look at in their breed groups! And a much nicer day for it!!
When you go to Builth wells nsa ram sale with a shopping list and fail to get what you went for.. but end up with this little beast of a Suffolk! What a sheep! Chuffed to bits with him. Roll on lambing 2024.
Chartex shearling rams. These boys have really come out of themselves this last couple weeks!! Unbelievable difference in them. These are also available off farm all season. focus on indexes as always, with length and skins to die for! always a popular cross these! Great crossing rams! Pm for more info
Suffolk shearling rams available off the farm at Kenn near Exeter. These boys are all done naturally. We donβt supplement feed our rams at all for sale condition. We are chuffed with this bunch of rams. They are probably the best bunch we have had. There is a lot of high index back breeding, which is definately leaving a marked difference in the performance of these guys.most of the stock sires are in the top 1% of the breed. Good fit active rams, bred and reared with longevity and performance in mind! We have many other breeds and crosses available aswell. Pm for more info π
This is the Suffolk x charollais batch of tups. All shearlings, all grass fed vaccinated wormed and bloussed. Ready for action π. Bred and reared in a large commercial system, plenty of selection pressure with commercial performance goals! We have always had performance in mind, many high index rams throughout the back breeding. Latterly we have been hybridising these guys. Using the best of the new lines we can introduce from home and we have also introduced an aberblack ram which is the sire of half of these. He can be found in a video on the feed of this page. He was the highest index aberblack at the time, and I think highest priced innovis sheep to date ππ. We have some exciting prospects going forward from this flock. They are proving themselves in a huge range of systems as well!
They are available off farm all season. Also some entered in the Exeter breeding sale this coming Tuesday. Please pm for more info
We had the sufftex rams selected yesterday so I grabbed a quick video while I could. These boys are all first cross rams. Some have Suffolk sires and texel dams and some the other way around (Soon to be hybridised like the others) looking well on just perminant pasture and reasonably rough grazing. These are available off farm anytime all season. Based at Kenn near Exeter. Please pm for more info. Loads of other breeds available
Sorting tups again.. this mob is headed to a meadow to tidy up after some lambs. Suffolks charollais and Suffolk x rams. And the bfl x texels in this mob. We just entered some for the next breeding sale at exeter livestock centre. please get in touch if you would like to view any of them.
Quick video this evening of some of the Blue face Leicester x Texel shearling rams we have available. We are really pleased with these boys! Reared off grass as always. Originally bred from our Blue Leicester flock with high index texel rams, and more recently have been hybridised by mating crossbred parents. Definitely been worth the journey of finding the right genetics and experimenting with the breeding here.. itβs starting to pay off! π Please pm me if interested.
Another stop on our trip at Neil Oughtonβs Loweyre charollais flock. Between us we purchased a pair of charollais shearlings. Again these are grass fed and full of figures. Typical of Neil Oughton these are exceptional for muscle and for growth due to the weights. Positive fat as well and overall top 1% terminal indexes. One is sired by Loweyre Wildthing and the other by U corker. We saw wild thing. He is off the clock for confirmation!
We did a spot of travelling yesterday in search of some fresh genetics. Picked up this cracker from Matt Harding at Bentley Suffolks. Sired by sandyknowe Trent, he has exceptional figures for growth, muscle, fat and overal top1%. He stood out for me amongst his pals, just what I was after. very pleased to have been able to obtain him!
Drafted off the biggest ram lambs today. always a good video opportunity! Thereβs a selection of all the breeds and crosses that we do there, the oldest are 14 weeks the youngest would be 10 weeks. Very pleased with how they have done this year!
