Red Light therapy - coming soon 🤩🤩

Consistent application provides support for the body’s natural healing mechanisms, which in turn speeds up treatment of conditions such as:
Joint pain (from osteoarthritis, or overuse injury that has led to cartilage degradation),
Wounds,
Connective tissue injuries (sprains and strains of ligaments and tendons),
Muscle injuries (strains and tears),
Cartilage degradation (caused by osteoarthritis or overuse),
Muscle recovery from training,
Back pain,
Inflammation,
Neuropathy and neuropathic pain.

I’m so excited to be able to offer sports massage and soon red light therapy!
My own horse being absolutely spoilt rotten with treatments currently once a week, he really does benefit ! And I can’t wait to try out the RLT!!!

Not many photos on this one, however the difference Photo 2 tracking up before massage treatment. Photo 1 after. May only be a couple of inches, but this boy was free to move!
Tight within his trapezius and recommendations for rider given ! He’s an ex racer and therefore schooling is all very new! With the recommendations this will allow the horse to become more free, able to build up thag top line and gain strength throughout the glutes and a more natural head carriage!
It’s so lovely to work with clients willing to take on information and be able to see and feel the difference! Went out for a ride and a lovely message to let me know how different he felt and free! That’s what it is all about!

First horse of the day is this 23 year old Welsh D
What a good boy he was.
Initially with the scapula release he was tense, not overally comfortable. We went back to try again once he felt more at ease with the idea that this will make him more comfortable! He absolutely loved it! Only a few little niggly areas, look at that shine! After working on one side, this boy relaxed (probably a little too much from the cheeky fella in one of the photos 😅)
We did some release of muscle tension in the aductors. He held his leg up just like a dog, this area can be a little touchy and not welcomed by some, but he would have stood there for hours!
He had a fab sternum lift! And pelvic lift!

Hoping to see him again for some regular treatments.

Body scoring a horse, as an ESMT part of our initial consultation is to body score a horse, now we often won’t speak directly to a client as it’s something that automatically runs through our heads. Well worth body scoring your horse through your eyes. Muscle can be covered by fat, so don’t mistake muscle for fat, they work completely differently for the horses body. Be honest, body score your horse! We have all been there. Too skinny, too fat! As long as it’s recognised and being proactive about it then you are doing good 👏

Meet Stitch
Stitch is a young little one who recently underwent surgery for a pretty bad freak accident!
With the vets say so l, today I treated stitch, as you can see he is very young, and a lot of stable and box rest time meant there was not much muscle and he is steadily building up to his time out again, it’s so important for his growth to get this correct and with time, and treatment he will get there.

He was an absolute sweetheart, we took it slow and steady to ensure he trusted me with my approach as in his short life so far he has been poked and proded more then most adult horses!

I think he definitely enjoyed the cuddles more!!
I am very much looking forward to working with stitch in the future to assist in his rehabilitation after only 6 weeks so far out of surgery.

Head over to Tiny Hooves Therapy Ponies Devon for stitches journey and how he is going to go on to be a therapy pony, he certainly is a friendly little soul! Donna his owner is so invested in Stitch, his accident , his recovery it certainly is a story to tell when he gets out there!

Cuddles again in a couple of weeks? I think so! Hoping to see some muscle improvement as time goes on, keeping them nice and free and supple is a huge part of his rehabilitation and recovery!
It’s so important that the muscles are supported, freed up, and the tension is released not just in the ridden horses!

TUESDAY TIP: Riding trot – canter transitions, and canter – trot transitions

🌟 Transitions form the basis of all training. Riding progressive trot – canter and canter – trot transitions will help to condition the abdominal muscles, improve stability and suppleness in the back, lumbosacral and sacroiliac regions and are an effective way of alleviating back tension and stiffness. 🐎

✅ These transitions work so well because back function alternates between acting as a stabilising rod with only passive flexion and extension in trot to actively creating flexion and extension in canter.

👉 Remember, a good transition takes preparation and requires balance, suppleness, and a willing response to the rider’s aids. All transitions should take place without any loss of rhythm, change in posture or loss of stability.

TUESDAY TIP 🦄

Suppleness is important in both your horse's body and mind.

Riding small circles is a great suppling exercise for the body and brain.
Start in walk ride and ride a series of 5m circles around your arena. You can then progress to riding 10m circles in trot if your horse is feeling relaxed and supple.

TUESDAY TIP - Fitness 🐎

Well toned, supple muscles can stretch and contract freely. To avoid injury, it's important your horse is fit for the work he does.

✅ TRAIN REGULARLY. Shorter, more intense exercise several times a week increases muscular condtion more effectively than a longer period once a week.

✅ TRAIN APPROPRIATELY. For activities that require strength or power - such as jumping, few repetitions performed at higher intensity are effective. For disciplines that require less power but more stamina - such as dressage or endurance, less intense exercise, with a greater number of repetitions are appropriate.

✅ VARY HIS WORK. The same type of exercise shouldn't be done every day. Plan a varied exercise programme for your horse that includes hacking, schooling, hill work, pole work and fast work. This variety will activate more muscle groups and allows tissues time to recover.

Tuesday Tip - 𝗟𝗘𝗚-𝗬𝗜𝗘𝗟𝗗

A great suppling exercise that's easily incorporated into your schooling sessions. 🐎

The horse moves forwards and sideways on two tracks. The legs crossing the midline in adduction and away in abduction - whilst maintaining lateral flexion through the neck and body away from the direction of travel.

This movement mobilises your horse's ribs, back and hips, activates the deep vertebral muscles and is a useful contributory factor in developing longitudinal and lateral flexibility.

Want to learn more about the benefits of lateral work? Take a look at our on-demand recorded webinar, The Biomechanics of Lateral Work -

Different muscle build up/ different disciplines has a huge part in how the horse feels to ride / ability to work and move freely

Horses inside out, the information on here is amazing! Really showing how the horse moves, the anatomy of a horse.

When I do a treatment, there will be an initial consultation before the first treatment; a trot up / walk away and a discussion on how you feel about your horses movements and any concerns you may or may not have! Because that’s fine too! You don’t have to have a ‘reason’ for a sports massage and it can be used as regular maintenance!
