Typically, the purpose of ventilation is to remove moisture from the poultry house, however as temperatures rise, its purpose shifts to keeping the birds cool.

However, when there are high temperatures in the day and much cooler nights, ventilation systems can automatically default to the minimum setting overnight, making it difficult to create the best environmental conditions for a flock.

It is important to check that the minimum ventilation is sufficient overnight, to keep the atmosphere fresh and still remove as much moisture as possible from the house.

Huge congratulations to Esme who was presented with the award at the National Egg & Poultry Awards last night.

Joined by regional lead vet Sean Wisdom, the awards recognise achievement, excellence and best practice in the sector.

Congratulations to vet Charlotte Cole who received the Brian Hanson Award at the recent British Veterinary Poultry Association Spring Meeting.

The award is given for the best paper presented at a BVPA meeting.

Charlotte presented a paper at the 2023 Winter Meeting titled "The Great Yorkshire Beak Off" that explored a case of mycotoxin induced beak necrosis.

Clinical Director Richard Jackson recently shared the UKโ€™s experiences of antibiotic reduction with integrators and vets in Poland.

The British Poultry Councilโ€™s recent Antibiotic Stewardship Report served to highlight the significant achievements made by members of the BPC Antibiotic Stewardship, to safeguard the efficacy of antibiotics, whilst driving excellence in bird health and welfare.

Plans have been announced to lift the Avian Influenza Prevention Zone housing measures for poultry and captive birds in England and Wales from 00:01 on Tuesday 18 April 2023. However, the Avian Influenza Prevention Zone mandatory biosecurity measures will remain in place for all birds.

Congratulations to vet Aonghus Lane who was awarded the Cliff Stuart Prize, at the recent British Veterinary Poultry Association Spring Meeting.

The award is for the best practitioner presentation given at a BVPA meeting in 2022. Aonghus presented his paper at the Winter Meeting, on FAdV-1 Associated Gizzard Erosion in Broilers: Field Investigation.

He unravelled his scientific and epidemiological approach used in the field, to investigate the root cause of gizzard erosion - a disease that has a negative impact on flock performance โ€“ and information that will help other clinicians.
