Biosecurity
Last weekโs webinar served as a reminder of the importance of biosecurity at all times โ and not just as a reaction to a disease outbreak.
Here's a reminder of the biosecurity measures that all farms should have in place >>
Water
Water is the largest nutrient by weight consumed by laying hens and for every 1kg of feed, birds will drink 1.8 kg of water.
โGood water hygiene not only promotes better bird health and welfare โ it also makes financial sense.โ
Clinical Director Richard Jackson recently shared the UKโs experiences of antibiotic reduction with integrators and vets in Poland.
The British Poultry Councilโs recent Antibiotic Stewardship Report served to highlight the significant achievements made by members of the BPC Antibiotic Stewardship, to safeguard the efficacy of antibiotics, whilst driving excellence in bird health and welfare.

Ben is part of our West of England and Wales team and is passionate about preventative medicine โ something that attracted him to the poultry industry. Heโs also particularly interested in clinical trials and the epidemiology of exotic disease.
He sees the veterinary input and drivers for poultry are to lower the disease challenge and optimise the environment, to help the flock thrive. Something he works towards with all his clients.

๐๐๐๐ญ Nathan Hiom -
Nathan is part of our West of England and Wales team, having graduated from the University of Liverpool in Veterinary Medicine in July 2020. After completing placements and an internship with St David's Poultry Team, Nathan joined us full-time in 2021.
With a particular interest in optimising the health, welfare and productivity of broilers, Nathan will be speaking at our upcoming Herefordshire Broiler Farmer Evening, sharing a review of phase one of a trial, looking at the use of organic acids to support growth and reduce cellulitis rejects.

Introducing our five Regional Lead Vets.
Like all of our veterinary team, their focus is to be on site and support clients day-to-day with proactive and practical advice. However, they also manage a team of local vets and co-ordinate the veterinary services in their area.
They have detailed knowledge and understanding of the successes, challenges and opportunities that are particular to their region as a whole. This means that when developing farm-specific health plans, our vets can also take in to account the regional and geographic differences that can impact a flock's health, welfare and productivity.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone this week at British Pig & Poultry Fair.

See you there!
