Happy New Year everyone! 🥳🥂 I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year! You have all spoilt us rotten with your presents, cards and messages over the holidays. WE'RE BACK! We've had a wonderful and much needed couple of weeks off, including a relaxing week in Portugal with family. Now Bear and I are ready to see all our furry friends we've missed 🥰🐶🐾

*Kennel cough warning/info for dog owners*

Hello, I am not posting this to make anyone worry but just so that owners are aware.

Kennel cough is doing the rounds in our area at the moment. 3 of my dogs I look after have come down with it including our very own Bear 🐶 luckily all 3 of them only have it mildly and are recovering already 🙌 I just want to spread a bit of awareness about it so that other dog owners know what they are dealing with and don't panic if their dog catches it.

WHAT IS KENNEL COUGH?
Kennel cough is basically doggy flu. It is a respiratory infection caused by a mixture of bacteria and viruses and is highly contagious.
Most dogs that get it will only get it mildly and fight it off themselves. However it can be serious in some dogs, particularly puppies, elderly dogs or dogs with underlying health issues if it develops into pneumonia.

HOW IS KENNEL COUGH SPREAD?
Kennel cough is a highly contagious airborne/ droplet respiratory infection. It can be spread easily by dogs coughing or sneezing in close proximity, direct contact with an infected dog and contact with contaminated surfaces such as bowls and toys.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF KENNEL COUGH?
- ‌sudden coughing like they're trying to clear their throat
-‌ a hacking cough
- ‌gagging/dry retching
- ‌bringing up white foamy phlegm

Severe symptoms include lethargy, loss of appetite, fever and laboured breathing.

HOW CAN I HELP MY DOG?
- ‌REST! Exercise and excitement will aggravate the coughing.
- ‌Add a little honey to warm water, to help sooth their throat. It has antibacterial properties.
- ‌Add 2 teaspoons of coconut oil to your dogs food daily. It has antiviral properties.
- ‌Use a humidifier if you have one.
- ‌Your vet will give you antibiotics if needed for more serious cases.

HOW DO I KNOW WHEN MY DOG IS BETTER?
Kennel cough usually lasts for 1 - 3 weeks. The main thing to take note of is when your dog stops coughing. You then need to keep your dog away from other dogs for 10 days after their cough has gone, as they can still be contagious during this time.

🐾🐶🥰 So if you think your dog may have kennel cough, keep them away from other dogs and get them to rest until they recover. You can always call your vet for advice, they will be happy to help 🥰🐶🐾

We have had so many gorgeous visitors staying with us over the summer for their holidays 🥰🐶 this is just a few of them! Any dogs that come to us are treated as if they are our own (well you know they're all my babies anyway and get treated as such 😝) I send regular daily updates, as always, so their wonderful humans can all enjoy their holidays as well, knowing what their pups are up too 🐾

Some of my pawsome day care babies 😍 this lot treat our house as their own, which is exactly what I want!! We have crazy, snoozy, playful and lazy moments just like they all would at home. As long as they are comfortable and happy being here then I'm one happy human 🥰🐾🐶

It's been busy busy busy for the Mind Your Pawz family over summer! I'm knackered 😅 but I wouldn't change this job for the world! Just look at all of these happy pups on some of our regular walks each week 🥰🐾🐶 they are so worth it ❤️

Lilies are blooming at this time of year, and they are also a popular cut flower for vases. But remember, they are extremely toxic to cats - even grooming off pollen that's fallen on their coat as they brush past is enough to send some cats into kidney failure 😿

If you are concerned your cat might have come into contact with poisonous lilies, call a vet immediately!

Attempting to get photos of Bear and myself is always comical! He gets so mad at me and refuses to cooperate, but here's a few of the better attempts this morning even though they are a bit blurry and bare faced 🤣🤦‍♀️
We all know I'm rubbish at social media and go through phases of posting (I need to get better at being more consistent) but I just wanted to say a big **THANK YOU** for all of the support over the last year, and before then as well since I first set up Mind Your Pawz ❤
In fact, your support has been SO wonderful that I am now having to turn people away, which is insane and amazing, even though I wish I could help everyone and have all the doggies 😍 I can't believe I've actually got to this point, where I can say I'm not currently taking on any new clients for dog walks and doggy day care at the moment 😱 so thank you to all my new clients and the originals, to all of those I have currently and have had in the past, to all my family and friends and followers. Love you all, you're the best! 🥰❤🥰❤
