Had a great meet up this morning with Nicky from Equicode 😁 It's always amazing to meet like-minded professionals and Nicky sure is one! She is an amazing coach - really looking at the biomechanics involved in the horse-human partnership, including the bond that can be achieved with understanding, patience and a variety of activities. She has a great understanding of behavioural science - another part of a holistic approach to horse care and importantly, puts ethics and welfare first

So Noddy came back again this week ….

We started of by doing some in-hand work, even though Noddy has clocked up a fair few repetitions of his stop, Step-back, go, lengthening and shortening buttons, and his head down at home - it’s always a good idea to check the quality of the responses in hand in a new environment… we spent about 20mins playing and he was very obedient, calm and relaxed, there has to be something in it for him so he was rewarded with some hay and a rest in the stable…..
We then brought him out again and asked him the same questions in hand and because he was so obedient, calm and relaxed his mummy got on board…..
Mounted we just went through the same process of checking that the buttons all worked - he was a little superstar 🤩….
he had a walk and trot, played over a few poles and ended with a super canter around the arena on both reins …. This second session was probably about another 20 mins… there wasn’t any reason to ask any more of him, we don’t want him to leave the arena frazzled - we want him to leave having had a positive experience.

Noddy came out to play - a first for this little man - a ride out in the trailer, a little bit of work in the arena checking his stop, step-back, go, turn and head down buttons…all that hard work required a rest - Noddy munched his hay happily in a stable whilst we had a well earned cuppa!
Suitably refreshed we did a little more work.
Noddy was a superstar, he had a chilled and stress free outing, next time we will do some ridden work, but for today this was enough ….

A brief intro to Equicode - based just outside of Fakenham, Norfolk.
If you haven’t already popped round for coffee and cake and a chat pre lesson, post lesson or just passing by then here are a few photos to show you what awaits your welcome….. along side of fab indoor facilities with a classroom and kitchen we have a 20x 60 outdoor arena which rides beautifully.
And the reason for creating Equicode ?

I’m passionate about ethical, sustainable training - you will find that the horses welfare and clear understanding of the aids are paramount here, marrying that up with rider biomechanics it makes for a great combination of effective horse and rider training.
We don’t offer shortcuts and quick fixes but we will take you on a journey of learning and enlightenment, how thinking outside the box can make massive changes to both your riding and the horses way of going.
As an accredited Mary Wanless Ride With Your Mind Coach you can expect detailed bespoke rider biomechanics tuition, if you are nervous or having a confidence crisis then we have patience in abundance, if you are competitive we will help you reach your goals.
If you want to improve your riding and spend some quality time with your horse we could be just the environment for you …….
We are easy to find and have plenty of parking space.

1-2-1 £30 for an hours tuition

Come with a friend and have a shared lesson, we can discuss our findings in a workshop session work on your realignment (there will be coffee and cake) and then ride again putting your new pieces into practice….. 3 hours of horsey fun for
£75 per person.

Ladies and Gentlemen that Lunch and Learn days are available, spend some time with like minded supportive people, have a 45 min lesson, stay and watch other lessons, chat over lunch, these are very chilled, laidback days perfect for just getting you and your horse out …..

Hi All

Emergency First Aid at Work– with Equestrian-Specific Supplement

I have to, for insurance purposes renew my first aid certification,
Medi-k are a recognised company that provide onsite training - I have been in contact with them and potentially have 11th May pencilled in the diary to run a course here at Equicode (Fakenham).
The course details are below,
It’s a days training, coffee cake biscuits will be provided, bring your own packed lunch…… the cost is £65.00 - will need to be paid in full in advance.

This is a course for all equestrians;
Ask yourself the question - would you know what to do and how to administer first aid in an emergency?

If not then come and find out - it may just save someone’s life…..

Emergency First Aid at Work– with Equestrian-Specific Supplement
A large riding establishment/livery yard with horses used for most disciplines including cross country and show jumping would have a greater need for first aid provision than a small livery yard where staff had minimal direct contact with the horses.

Many yards will have small numbers of employees but it is still deemed necessary to have at least one first aider available at all times. For establishments covering provision to the public it would be reasonable to expect to have a first aider present at all such times.

Medi-K training offers this HSE complaint 1 day Emergency First Aid at Work Course which will give a complete overview of first aid procedures. It is specifically designed for those who are involved in horse riding activities, including events, leisure and recreation.

Course syllabus and assessment

This course covers the following topics:

Understand the role and responsibilities of an Emergency FirstAider
Know how to assess an incident
Manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
Manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
Recognise and assist a casualty who is choking
Manage a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
Concussion
Manage a casualty who is in shock
Understand how to manage a casualty with a minor injury

Assessment is on-going by the instructor, and a three year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria.

In addition,the HSE strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programme of three hours.

Happy Horses and Happy Riders playing in the winter sunshine……
These ladies certainly struck it lucky with the winter weather on their recent residential training course.

I received this text today from one of the ladies that I teach ...
I just love it when a partnership blossoms - we have worked on this horses physical fitness and programmed and deepened the responses of all the basic buttons - stop/ go / step-back/ direct and indirect turns - taught her how to lengthen and shorten her stride and lengthen and lift and carry her body - worked on the riders biomechanics and established a mutual agreement of contact between the horse and rider - it’s been the most amazing and fun journey and we have transformed a this horses way of going - no quick fixes just time and patience and ethical training 💕

Here is Fans after a MASSIVE roll after our fab lesson! Who would have thought that me and my wonderful 28 yr old could ride canter poles!!! Nicky - this is all thanks to you! What a fabulous teacher you are! I never thought I would be able to do this with my horse ( or any horse to be honest). You have taught me that I can, that I can feel how I should feel when I ride, that I can feel what my horse is doing underneath me, that it can make sense and when it does...How marvellous and wonderful it feels! Thank you Nicky - you should be so proud of how you help us and our horses. ###
