The University of Lincoln Equestrian BUCS Team is made up of 4 competitive teams - Championship, Trophy 2, Trophy 3 and a Varsity Team. Each team, other than the Varsity team, will have 4 competitions a year against 3 other universities and one home competition. The Varsity Team will compete at Varsity in Hull, in February next year and will also compete at inter-house competitions held at our tra
ining yard, where prizes/rosettes will be given out. In each phase you will draw orders and horses out of a hat, so it is completely random which horse you will ride and what order too. One rider from each team will ride either horse A, B, C and D depending which one they draw. The horse you use for dressage will be a different horse to your jumping horse, so you will have to draw again for the horse and order. Horses will be shown off prior to each competition phase so you have a chance to see how each one goes and jumps. The horses will also complete a round of the jumping course prior to you mounting. For the dressage phase you will have 7 minutes to warm up and for the jumping phase you will have 5 minutes to warm up, including 4 practice jumps. At the end of each phase, you will be scored against the other riders who rode the same horse as you. In dressage especially, they will look at how accurate your test was and how well you made the horse go compared to the other riders. For jumping, you will again be marked on style, and how you approach the fences as well as marked for any knockdowns, refusals etc you may have had.
