I have recently seen an increase in matted dogs who are on regular 6-8 week schedules.

I fully understand that sometimes life gets in the way and this weather! Yuck, it's been horrendous ⛈️

When your dogs have enjoyed splashing about in those muddy puddles and swimming in the lochs, make sure you wash, dry, brush and comb thoroughly to avoid matting ✂️

If you are struggling to maintain their coat for whatever reason, please just get in touch and I would be able to help before it gets too severe.

Phoenix Dog Grooming has a zero 🚫 tolerance policy on matting, I will not brush out matted coats at a grooming appointment as it damages them further, causes discomfort for your pets and causes me delays.
Matting fees will be added to grooms requiring shaving.

I recycle around 90% of the excess pet hair produced during a groom now thanks to this wonderful scheme.

As the hair has to be clean and unsoiled, occasionally some does go to landfill but I keep this to a minimum wherever possible.

ℂ𝔸𝔼𝕊𝔸ℝ ✨️

This beautiful boy has had a few pampers with me now but recently, his mum has been noticing a difference in his behaviour.
He's been very distant, not wanting to engage in play or cuddles, generally seeming a bit miserable.

His coat, all bar a few matts, wasn't in bad condition but was very thick and heavy so we decided to try a complete shave down to see if it made any difference.

Well he is like a new man! Straight home for play with his human baby sister (something he's never done!) and even jumped into bed for night time cuddles with Mum & Dad 😍

It may seem drastic to shave so short, but in some cases it is the best option for the pet's wellbeing. Humanity before Vanity as we groomers like to say.

Caesar's mum was happy with me sharing 💜

Miss Skye was referred to me by another local groomer, as Skye has a few struggles within the grooming process. Her previous groomer felt she'd be more suited a more 1 to 1 approach with less dogs around so I said I'd be more than happy to help 🥰

After identifying what triggers Skye and what works to settle her, we've been able to slowly work on getting some shape and style back into her groom from shaving her off at the beginning (behavioural work is easier when you start with a blank canvas!).

Still a way to go but there is progress with every visit and I'm very proud if this young lady 💜🐾

Peter & I went over to Unleashed Dog Parks in Midlothian today for their annual dog event, P in the Park.
What a great day! Loads of small business stalls to support, have-a-go activities for all the dogs, great food and displays.

Luna won 1st Place for "Fastest Recall"... of course 🤣

We had a blast, did anyone else visit this weekend?!

Can't wait for next year 🙌
