The first few yellow striped Maroon Clownfish moving to grow outs. These F1s will grow into spectacular adults and are much less aggressive than their common Maroon cousins.
This marks the 17th marine species we’ve bred in 2 years and also the end of phase 1. We will now not be breeding fish for a little while until we are setup again in bigger premises.
Breeding marines is a lot of work (especially with another full time job) but we truly believe not taking fish from the ocean is the way to go. Thankyou to everyone who has supported me in my mission and for choosing U.K. bred marine fish, without you guys it would not be possible.
Still have a few and corals available so hop over to the website for some bargains.
The ever beautiful Oyapoks are back in stock! One of the rarer and smallest of the Tinc morphs. Head to the website for more info and more jewels of the rainforest.

Look at this super cute reticulated Pipefish. This is one of our captive bred specimens sent to us by a customer and it doing fantastic in their mixed reef. We were the first to breed this species and they are an excellent candidate for captive breeding as the wild caught specimens have a very low survival rate.
Gorgeous pair of Wild Rams (Papiliochromis ramirezi) have finally decided to spawn and what a huge cloud of fry! For us the wild form of this species is by far the most beautiful. Hopefully have some F1s available soon.

Check out this gorgeous pair of D.Tinctorius ‘oyapoks’ courting. Truly one of the most stunning animals on the planet! The female gently rubbing the back of the male to stimulate him to lead her to his chosen spot to lay their eggs. Tadpoles from this pair are now back in stock.
Gorgeous Red Head Goby proudly showing off his glowing streaks of fire. 🔥 Thanks for all the support this year and a special thanks to those who bought a captive bred fish, frog or crab and allowed to keep striving for a more sustainable hobby. Merry Christmas!
This marks the first steps into a new mission for Pholium Mariculture. We will now be breeding tropical freshwater fish!! Concentrating on species that are rarely bred or under threat in the wild. First up we have the stunning Checkerboard cichlid (Dicrossus maculatus). This young female is herding around her fry and communicating with them by flashing her bright yellow and red fins. Checkerboards are considered one of the most difficult Amazonian fish to breed requiring a ph of below 6 and super soft water. Although beautiful, the females pale in comparison to the males. Pics incoming!(Don’t worry we will still be breeding marines with more species bing added soon) #captivebred #aquaculture #conservation #aquarium #blackwaterbiotope #aquariumhobby #aquariums #amazonfish #cornwall #ukbred #ukbredfish #pholium #reefaquarium #aquariums #reeffish #exoticpets #savetheocean #larvae #tropicalmarine #sustainable #davidattenborough #practicalfishkeeping #fishlarvae #fishbreeding #checkerboardcichlid
Gorgeous F1 coral Sea True Perculas showing their characteristic balling behaviour. These clownfish are special, having all the hardiness of captive bred fish but retaining the genetic strength of wild specimens. Most clownfish seen for sale are seriously inbred with multiple defects. F1 is the best of both worlds These will be available for sale soon and thanks to all those who have supported us so far.
These F1 Coral sea Perculas are just gorgeous and you can tell the difference the superior wild genes make, not a deformity in sight. Wild looking fish without the need for catching them from the wild. Available soon in the website. www.pholium.co.uk
You know you’re fish obsessed when you find a minute away from breeding marine fish, you decide to breed freshwater fish as a hobby.
Our Nanochromis Splendans finally bought there first brood out to meet us. Rubbish video of a truly gorgeous and pretty rare species.
Check out the colour of those eggs! Originally we hadn’t planned on producing clownfish but having seen the quality of the captive bred stock available we felt it was needed. Many of the ‘designer’ clowns on the market are very deformed with bulldog faces, malformed fins and stunted growth. Here at Pholium we have decided to try and produce some high quality and hardy first generation fish from wild parents as we believe nature got it right the first time. Just check out this male onyx true percula, stunning!
25 day old Gold Neon Goby larvae growing quickly and should be settling soon. Neon gobies are a perfect reef aquarium inhabitant. They are beautiful, hardy and will clean other fish of parasites. Uk bred Neon gobies will be added to the website and available to buy in the next few weeks. Also I’d like to thank everyone who has bought a fish, shrimp or crab from us. You guys are keeping the uk bred marine fish dream alive!!
We’ve been rejigging the systems to start breeding a few invertebrate species. First up is the hard working peppermint shrimp which is one of species most captured in the wild for our aquariums. Check out these larvae they are so cool! First batch will be available for sale soon
4 month old reticulate pipefish (Corythoichthys conspicillatus).
As far as we know this is a WORLD FIRST and we couldn’t be more proud to bring another captive bred species to the ever growing list.
Mandarin babies!! Getting much better hatches now from our pair so we should soon have a constant supply of nice fat mandarins bred right here in the U.K!
Again a rubbish quality video BUT it looks like the first of the Reticulated pipefish (corythoichthys Conspicillatus) settled and started to take on adult colouration. This is a big step as this could potentially be a world first which would be a real achievement.
